I'll be moving from Sprint to Verizon. On Sprint the GV and my phone number are the same. I read the official GV support docs and I can unlock my phone number and then port it to a new carrier.

If I keep my number with GV and get a new Verizon phone no, is there any way to make all my calls appear to come from GV?

I'd like to have the same setup as now but not sure of the best options.

Verizon doesn't have the same Google Voice integration that you have with Sprint. However, the Google Voice app has an option to make all calls using Google Voice so that the person you're calling will see your GV number, rather than your Verizon number.

The Google Voice app should do what you want, albeit a little differently than on Sprint. There are toggle widgets that allow you to toggle using your GV number for all calls, international calls, or none. GV voice mail is what I use, rather than VZ voice mail. It works fine. I have the GV app widget on my main home page which shows my voice mails. (See my pic of my home screen). Mine shows Do not use, since I don't use my GV number to make calls.

Has anyone used this app - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tools.apps.gvintegration&hl=en&token=e_Jp4kCp ?

I'm hoping to drop the text plan from my Verizon bill.

I have not used that app...but I have dropped my text plan from Verizon! Saves me $30/mo or $360/year!

My only gripes:

1) Occasionally delayed text message delivery and receipt...sometimes by several hours.

2) No MMS support

But solving the above is not worth $360/year in extra charges... I am very happy...

Seconded. I still have a solo account and did not have unlimited texting, so it only saved me $10/month. But I just gave my gVoice number out to family and close friends, and told everyone else I don't get text messages anymore :-P

I just switched from Sprint to Verizon too, and all I did was forward my Verizon number to my voice number to use the voice mail on voice, as opposed to paying Verizon $3 a month for visual voice mail, which should be a standard feature on all smartphones... Bastards.

I ordered a new GS3 today and chose to get a new number (I confirmed I can port my number anytime without a fee). So for now I'm going to cancel Sprint service, and keep my GV number (which is the same as my Sprint one, which everyone has). On the new phone I'll set the app to make all calls via GV. This should make all phone calls transparently use Google Voice, right? The only issue is texts, and losing mms. The GV app mixes voice and text and doesn't do threading so its quite hard to use.

I have a smartphone that my job pays for, so I ported my personal line to Google Voice and use that now for all personal calls. It's been just over a week since I started, and so far it's pretty good. I have my GV app set up to ask me before every call if I want to use GV or the standard number to make calls. My contact list is huge between personal and business, so I like it set up this way.

Biggest thing I miss so far is the lack of MMS, however this is supposed to be coming to GV eventually.

Only other issue is that occasionally my GV number will get routed to my business voicemail. I believe this is because when on call waiting or out of cell service, VZW voicemail picks up the GV call and forwards to voicemail.

I ported my number to Google Voice and couldn't be happier. I rarely used MMS so that wasn't an issue. And as stated above, the Google Voice app makes integration seamless with your phone.

My issue with not having MMS is not the fact that it doesn't work... My biggest gripe is that one of two things should happen if someone sends me an MMS:

1) The sender gets an error/bounceback (or whatever the appropriate indicator should be) letting them know that the MMS was not successfully sent OR
2) I should get a regular text message letting me know that someone was trying to send me something that I didn't receive

All too often someone sends me an MMS message and days/weeks later asks me about that funny/interesting photo they sent to me, believing that it came through fine.

Check out GrooVe IP in the Play Store. Uses GV to make free VOIP calls. Saves me a ton of minutes!!!

I use Google Voice for voicemail.

.... God I HATE voicemail.

What do you guys think of the GV transcription of VM? I think its a pretty cool feature -
I have noticed on VZW though, GV texts show against my plan texts - (I only have 500 and try to only text VZW to VZW) when I text out on GV, my myVerizon will show them counted - anyone seeing the same thing? I was under the impression GV cut out carrier text charges - am I doing it wrong from the GV app?

App settings / sync and notifications / receive text messages. Set it to "Google voice app."

Check for a similar setting online. It actually duplicates the message and forwards it to your cell #.

Tested this by having my fiancee text me while it was set to "via messaging app." I have carrier testing disabled and I never got the message.

PS voice mail transcription is almost useless for me. Never seems to work properly. I love just clicking play without any hassle though.

I have GV integration working now. I had to pay $20 to port my Sprint number, and set the app to make all calls via Google on the phone. It's a bit annoying to see the random phone numbers everytime I call - 'calling via xx-xxx-xxx' which is just some internal phone number and not mine, and is thus of no relevance.

Texts on the other hand are extremely unreliable. I have it setup to not forward them to my phone, since my goal is to remove the txt plan and save money. Over the weekend I sent a bunch of texts and they all show up as 'queued' on the phone, and the only way they get sent is to kill and restart the GV app.

In my experience they go through but are not visually reported correctly. I have conversations where my side is always still pending, but the messages obviously go through.

Are you using the GV app to send your text messages?

Are you using the GV app to send your text messages?

Yes. I don't use the builtin sms app, if you choose to send a text from contacts then there's an option to send via GV. Unfortunately this doesn't work via voice control apps - e.g. using S Voice to send txt uses the builtin app.

You are right about S Voice. Are you able to send text messages via the GV app?
