Any high speed ROMS or kernels that utilize the touch-to-focus camera feature?

I heard that CM7 doesn't. Another question: Is it stable enough yet? This is the most discussed one I've found but a lot of people are having trouble.
I received the phone as an Eclair and updated to Froyo. Im very happy with that.
Whats the safest and at the same time strongest upgrade on the Captivate?
