I am on day 6 of my shift. My battery lasts about 10-11 hours before it hits 15% and the phone asks me to plug it in. Im probably a heavy user right now because I am trying to customize the phone but I can't believe the battery drain is now great.

Im looking for some tips to improve battery life. I abandoned webos because of the hardware and I just love the Shift hardware.

Thank you all...

FAQ

Read the FAQ about the shift it is a sticky. There is a bunch of info in there about the battery life including how I got 48 hours on one charge.

Also the battery gets better after about 10-15 full charge cycles

try juice defender. there is a free version in the market and you can just use the default settings. basically what it does is toggle your data connection when you have your screen locked. you still get notifications. i was getting around the same amount of life as you and now i get a good 18 hours+

+ 1 for juice defender. Keeps my data off while in standby, subsequently I have noticed a nice boost in battery life.

Only turn on 4g when you need it.

without using it, and it having on WiFi, Bluetooth and 3g, with full signal for WiFi and 3g I can get 2 days out of it easy. With normal use (A few calls, a few texts some browsing and some audio playback from local storage gmail sync, etc) I get 1 1/2 days easy.

Startup auditor is great from turning off stuff you don't need running.

I've had mine about two weeks now, the battery was operating great. I was using it all day from about 8am to 10pm and still having around 40% battery. All of sudden today I see it dropped to 50% in 5 hours, by the time I got home about 5 it was down to 15%. Nothing out of the ordinary was being done. I can't figure out why all of a sudden the battery life has dropped so fast. I had a few battery monitoring apps I tried out, but I removed them. I had added an exchange account, which I removed. I turned screen brightness down, etc. Before I got rid of Battery Max I noticed it said I had used 31% of my battery on the phone application, but I had only talked for 3 minutes. Any clues here? I just downloaded this Juice Defender to see if it will help, all other battery apps are removed.

Thats weird I get about 2 days on my shift. I do turn the screen to a pretty low brightness (I prefer this anyways), turn off all vibrate functions I can, only run 3g and GPS (sometimes just 3g) and limit the amount of active widgets on my screens to what I need. On a standard battery I get anywhere from 1.5 - 2 days on a single charge.

i get 11 hours maybe less with me using it all the time!

facebook, internet search, android central, crackberry, games, texting, picture messages.... and this is just at work!!! lol..

i am always on the phone so I doesn't last too long for me.. hey, that's what it's for .. to use it... not to be conservative with the s.hit.

use your phone and have fun! put the brightness on 80 percent!!! yay!
j/k

but yea.. if i can get more juice out of it i will

I'm going to test some of these apps on the shift.. because they didn't work on the evo (juice defender, app killers, they all ran in the back ground.. so what's the point? it's a running app wasting my battery)

I use my shift for my primary email device and Im on it a decent amount of the day. I also stream music for 1.5 hours at the gym and also whenever Im in the jeep driving anywhere I have either music playing or streaming pandora. As for the brightness I like it at the settings its at, as 80% is too bright for me.

I changed my screen brightness from automatic to approximately 10%. 4G is usually off unless I know I am in a 4G area. I turn off bluetooth when I am not using it and GPS is same way. I guess I would describe myself as a heavy user but I would like to get to at least 18 hours between charges. I would be fine with that.

I would try juice defender and see if that works.

I installed juice defender yesterday. Without touching my phone for the better part of the day, I believe I had about 80 percent left after having it unplugged for 12-13 hours. I unplugged it at 730 am and at 7pm, my battery went into the red zone. Today's usage - I would consider average... Not too impressed with the free version of juice defender. Any other suggestions?

Why have a smartphone with multi-tasking capabilities if you aren't going to use them....these new devices aren't paperweights anymore...they are meant to be used and used and used, like TP.....here's a tip, if the battery gets low, plug the phone into the wall!

along with juice defender i also went into sync and unchecked news and changed the sync settings of the other things i had in there to sync less frequently. i also went into google talk and unchecked automatic sign in as well as signing out. i am also a average/heavy user for data and am in a long distance relationship so i am on the phone a lot throughout the day. i am still averaging a good 16+ hours on one charge.

The news update can only be maxed out at 4 hours (I'd prefer to go longer, since I really only check the news on my phone once in awhile). I can't really imagine why updating 3 news sites 3 times a day would drain my battery, but two separate completely non-scientific tests tell me that for some reason having that news app update automatically just kills my battery.

I installed juice defender and I am over 24 hours since charging. Eight of it though during the night. The battery is in the yellow zone. I have been using it in my normal fashion. I use the custom setting and so far so good. The suggestion to turn everything off until its needed seems to be working.

I keep bluetooth and wifi off when not using them.

I keep gps on all the time but I do need the google maps often as I travel for my job. If you turn off gps when not needed and only turn it on when needed that will help.

I have my screen shut off and lock automatically every 2 minutes and manually shut if off when I know I will not use the phone right away. I also have my phone use the feature to automatically adjust the screen brightness.

I have a task killer run automatically every hour to shut down programs I'm not using.

I have as little apps and widgets as possible on my home screens. Anything on your home screen will drain your battery.

I avoid live wallpapers. I prefer darker wallpapers with less colors.

I most likely don't practice good battery care as I plug my phone in frequently during the day. In the car the phone is connected to the charger. In the office and at home I will connect it but not as much. I figure if I kill my battery early then I'll just buy another one. Mainly though this is my home/mobile phone so a dead battery is not an option for me. eventually I will get a spare battery but I want an HTC oem battery. I have thought about getting a battery plus Rayvac battery but I'm not a big fan of non-oem batteries.

I'm a heavy user in general. I text, use gps/google maps, look up stuff on the web, personal and work email use. Last time I had an app that turned off my sprint data coverage I had a hard time turning it on again. I am reticent to let a third party app turn my mobile data on and off due to that very scary experience. I thought the app bricked my Samsung Moment. Thankfully to me self taught techie skills I was able to correct the issue. If you can find a good app that toggles mobile data and doesn't screw up your phone I'm sure that your battery life would improve.

I do use quick settings and have it on my home screen which allows me quick access to many features of my phone. I can toggle a nice variety of services. You can even customize what features will display.
