Any idea why my car charger won't work?

My Pixi used the same USB input for charging so I already have one of these that I picked up cheap from Verizon:

Verizon lists it as compatible with the S3, but I plugged it in today and the phone wouldn't recognize anything. I suppose it could suddenly be busted, but it just worked the other day with the Palm. I don't have anything connected to the extra USB, so the only thing it is charging is the phone.

I have had quite a few marginal car chargers, even name brand ones. It may just not be powerful enough too. I know the S3 takes a 1 Amp charger, not the 0.6-0.8A of some of my previous phones.

A lot of the review are pretty negative on that charger. frequently mentioned (when used with other phones) are; stops working after x months, and doesn't charge while using gps navagation. I'm guessing it is marginal on the power output.

Well oddly enough it worked fine today and even charged it when running Waze for about 45 minutes. Maybe it is just dying slowly, but is up to the task when it wants to show up.
