Any Issues With Android 12 on Note 20 Ultra?

Just like the title says. Mine came with Android 11... but I have a particularly bad history with updating phones more than once with the next version of android. My S4, Turbo 2, Z Force, Note 9, all completely ruined by updates. The last time it happened with my note 9 and it started suffering from serious overheating problems, software problems, performance issues, all kinds of problems. It killed the Wi-Fi on my Z-Force and the same thing happened when they replaced it with a new Z-Force, my Turbo and my S4 both suffered serious performance issues, I'm having a really bad time with these updates.

I've talked to a number of phone technicians about this, and they've told me Google and phone manufacturers don't care how it affects older phones or it's even intentional because they want customers to replace their old phones and keep spending money.

So I feel like I would be doing something really stupid if I just went ahead and updated to 12 without learning as much as I possibly could and listening to other people's experiences. What do you guys use your phones for? How many and what types of apps do you use on them? How long have you had your phones? Did you start with 11 like I did or did you start with 10? What have your experiences been with Android 12? Performance issues? Battery problems? Charging problems? Overheating? Glitches? What about problems with things like wi-fi, bluetooth, wireless charging, compatibility issues, apps not working with Android 12, etc?

I don't know about issues because of the update, but there usually are issues after all updates one way or another. With this particular update, there really is nothing different that you will miss, it really is a weak update IMO. If you're happy with the way your phone works don't update, you won't really notice anything new. Of course you're going to miss out on the my phone runs smooth now or the battery life got better posts that happen after every update, .

If you don't block the update it will eventually be forced on your phone, so if you don't want it you better block it. If it's already downloaded to your phone I don't know if you can block it now, someone else will have to answer that question.

With all that said, where you will miss out on is security updates if you don't update. You won't get anymore security updates if you block the OS update, at least that's what I was told. That's the biggest negative about not updating to OS 12.

woke up to android 12 updating my note 20 ultra Verizon this morning. Took about 15 minutes. no issues so far.

It already downloaded..... I don't even know how to block updates like that. I tried to find out how and I couldn't find any reliable information, just explanations that didn't make any sense or wanted me to go into the boot up menu. I'm not going to mess with all that.

You can't stop the update, it's gonna go thru no matter what. Only way to block update is to do adb command to block it.

My Note 20 ultra on Verizon updated last week. No problem so far, but in my opinion with a major update such as this one, a new Android version, a factory reset should be done after the update. Doing so erases any remnant data from the older version. Now, whether it's actually necessary.. I don't know. But I always did this back in my Note 4 rooting days. At minimum, go to recovery and clear the cache.

Only if you feel something is off with your phone after updating. I've done one with the Note 8 I think in the 3 years I had it cause I was having wifi issues and pretty much confirmed by doing so it was a bad chip. The Note 20U I haven't yet but I just got a new screen and I want to test it with a clean wipe.

I hate restores with Android because it's not just one step back up everything 100% and pretty much 100% restore down to my last tabs and last page saved on my browsers whether I'm using Safari or FireFox or Chrome and still logged into those sites with passwords still intact and from one backup location... not restore from Google and also from Samsung Cloud.

But it gives me a chance to sit and go through the phone, back up files and pics to my SD Card that you can't get some apps to repoint to SD to save and with Android 12 just installed take a day to go through every option in settings and find some new stuff.

Anyone notice in Samsung Message when in text with group... your group text now says "Group text (x)" at top with number of people in group instead of at least displaying the first name or two in the group??

Have to see if can change back. I have multiple group texts I keep going and most time different people in each group and I can differentiate by the different names. But having them say the same thing when in the group irritates me when I go back into message app and in a group and can't tell by first glance which one I am in.

... You do a hardware wipe and at reboot it says it detects an unauthorized reset and needs your pin to ok it. So a hardware wipe really doesn't wipe "everything" when you reset? I skipped through the info and then did a factory erase in settings just to make sure and that one doesn't ask for your pin at reboot and continued on.

Then at Setup, you log into your Google Account and start a restore.
Then you log into your Samsung cloud and start a restore and you are running two restores simultaneously.

Then it downloads about 95 apps and installs. Then you get a message from Samsung restore that it needed the latest Samsung Cloud app to do the restore... and then in manually initiate a restore once its been updated. And then after all is done installing... you see Google Play has about 25 more apps to UPDATE (Why couldn't it install the LATEST version when restoring??). And then for giggles I check the Samsung Store for updates... and it says that app the Store app needs to be updated before running (again why can't it install the latest during restore or even included on a BRAND NEW OS update??). And then once installed I see that Galaxy Store has about 25 apps that need updating. And this is just to make sure everything is done restoring and updating before I go through the apps to see which ones need to sign in and set them up.

And then another annoying reason that Erasing/Restoring an Android is annoying... All the apps THEY did take the time to update and give you when if wasn't part of any backup and asked for.. that you're going to have to spend an hour cleaning up. :-! ... Harry Potter??? Pop! Slots???

Still lots to do after all of this (I am noticing needing to basically sign back in to every app I have an reconfigure). Apple Backup and restore FTW... seriously.

I have an issue with the Gallery app. Whenever I click on the share icon at the bottom to share a picture it always crash. No problem in sharing a video. It only happens for picture.

I already tried booting into safe mode, same behavior.

Anybody else have the same issue?

My update seems fine. But all my folders that I keep in the Edge Panel no longer have names, which is super annoying. Just icons.

AT&T Locked. Been sharing pics throughout the day today... choosing pic in gallery > share... through email as attachment or text to friend. No issues.

I have an issue with the Gallery app. Whenever I click on the share icon at the bottom to share a picture it always crash. No problem in sharing a video. It only happens for picture.

The only issue I see is that I don't like the shortcuts on the lockscreen, and yet they're still there even though the setting is turned off.

After my update the vibration for notifications was turned back on. Annoying is how I described that also.
