Android Central Question

I spend a lot of time outdoors and for the first time in a while, my phone has automatically turned off in the cold. In my past I've had the following phone in -10c (15f) without much problem:

- Nexus 4 and 5
- Moto X and G5 plus

I just switch over to a Samsung and immediate experience the phone turning off after of few minutes of exposure to sub-freezing temperature. The customer rep told me that's is normal for this phone. I got an Essential PH-1, and it does a little better, but still turn off around freezing temperature.

I am thinking of going back to Motorola since I live in Canada and it can get really, really, really cold here. We have a month where average day time high was -18c (0F) and low around -30c to -40c (-40F).

I don't need it to work at -40C, I just need it to work while it's in my pocket. Which is between 10C to -20C (about -4F). Anybody has phone that works okay in these temperature range?

Just use a hand warmer. They last 18 hours or so and are pretty cheap to purchase. Get the large ones sometimes found at Walmart.

I second this. Li-ion batteries are sensitive to cold weather and there isn't much else you can do about it besides keeping it warm.
