10 inch tablet selection

Hi,

I'm looking for a tablet to replace my old Nexus 7 (2013) so all suggestions for specific models are welcome. I'll try to make it easier by talking about what I need from it.

I want something in the 9-10 inch range, 7 is no longer cutting it for me. Primary use would be media consumption, browsing, social networks and messengers. I have zero tolerance for any lag during normal usage. I don't play any games so don't care about FPS there but the normal usage (browsing, FullHD movies) should be smooth. I really want a nice-looking screen with good resolution. Also good speakers are a big plus. Battery life should be decent as well.
Hopefully all of that can be found in one device, preferably cheaper than iPad pro :)

What I don't really care about are the looks and "premium" feel, ports and charging tech

Please suggest anything you think can fit my needs. Thanks!

P.S. I hope this is an appropriate forums section to post such question. If not, please move it.

I personally like the Samsung Tab S (the original one) but that's 10.5 inches, not sure it's too large for your. But it's amazing. The S2 is also nice, but I didn't like that they removed a few features and I hated that they changed the screen ratio from widescreen to an iPad-like 4:3. Shield tablets are also really good, but not sure they have a 10-inch version... they might have an 8-inch one.

Samsung's newest tablets are pretty nice, but they're pricey and run Windows, not Android.

Thanks for the tip! 10.5 is fine for me. I might go for the Tab S2 (the latest one with SD 652 chipset). Is the battery life decent on it?
I'm also looking at Nexus 9 and Pixel C, they are pricier though. Any comments about those two?

I personally think the Nexus/Pixel line is way too 'vanilla' for me. They're good, don't get me wrong, and for the price they're REALLY good...but they're just too simple. The Tab S line is more expensive, but it feels better, and supports multi-window right out of the box. The screen is superb on both models (although pixel density is a bit lower on the newer S2) and trumps even the Pixel. Battery life on all those is decent. I think the Tab S2, however, only goes up to 9.7 inches (which might be better for what you were searching for).

One advantage of the Nexus/Pixel, however, is that you're bound to get Nougat waaaaay before any of the Samsung tablets do.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I went with Tab S2 and I'm loving it so far. I would trade a few millimeters of thickness for a larger battery but otherwise it's perfect for me
