I have been running a 2012 Nexus 7 in my car for a few years now, but the tablet is starting to show its age.
The problem I am finding, is a replacement device that functions as well is virtually impossible to find. I tried a Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 edition, it did not like reading flash drives or using a USB DAC. Currently I am trying a Samsung SM-P580, USB DAC and Joycon work. But, it tells me my flash drive (that works perfectly with the Nexus) needs to be formatted. Going to try another flash drive, which I am hopeful will work, but, as to be expected, charging is not working with the powered USB hub connected.
Now, I know I can try a Lavalink adapter, but reviews are far from great, some devices it works, but not all, as well as many reports of the adapter failing after a month or so. Given the fabrication needed to fit the Samsung, I will need something reliable.
So, are there any devices that offer OTG and charging at the same time? Ideally without additional adapters. There are a fair number of Nexus 7 users with aging devices who run them in the car (usually on Timurs kernel) and I am sure many would be interested in a newer tablet that functioned as well.
Any suggestions? While the P580 is a 10" tablet, anything from 8-10" will work.
I started looking at Raspberry pi, but running Android on it loses touch functionality, and the Raspberry pi software, at least what I have seen in my limited exposure, does not look as smooth as Android apps. A Windows tablet may work, but the apps then become an issue and OTG + charge may still be a problem.
Thanks.
