Any way to dismiss lockscreen notifications?

Is there any way that I can make a text message received on my lockscreen to be considered "read". All I want to do is see a message and dismiss it as read and turn off the lock screen. Why do I need to double tap lockscreen notification, open the stock messaging app, close the messaging app and then turn off the screen just to dismiss a message. I can swipe it but it will come back. Certainly an area that apple does so well.

Welcome to Android Central! On the lockscreen, try swiping down slightly on the text message notification to expand it -- do you see options for Mark As Read and Reply? That's how it works on my Pixel 2 XL.

B. Diddy's suggestion will also depend on the app you're using for messaging as not all support expanded notifications properly. Apps like Textra, too, have options to automatically dismiss and mark a message as read when a notification is dismissed, be it on the lockscreen or the notification bar.

The only option I see when I swipe down is reply. I have the stock LG messaging app. I used to have good luck with other 3rd party message apps but my work have very bad cell reception and I use WiFi calling and texting but must use the stock message app for WiFi .

Textra does messaging through WiFi, at least on T-Mobile.

What if you use Google's Android Messages app instead? That's what I'm using, and it gives me those lockscreen options.

I will give both of those a try. That would be great if Textra worked. I just need to find the way to get the Wifi texting if ATT allows it.

Unfortunately both message apps do not support ATT wifi texting. I sent them a message and they said they do not support it. Oh well. I just wish such a simple concept that apple uses is not available for this phone. Maybe samsung has what I'm looking for.

How about using Google Voice? This would require that you create a new Google Voice number, but you could then funnel any or all other of your numbers to Google Voice, and you can still choose to call out with your regular number. I believe you can send and receive texts using Google Voice over wi-fi, and chances are that its lockscreen notification can be dismissed. My wife uses it, but I don't have her phone in front of me right now -- will let you know later if I'm right or wrong.

EDIT: Confirmed, you can send/receive SMS via Google Voice over wi-fi only. Haven't checked yet what the lockscreen notification looks like.
