Any way to get 1% battery increments?

Took the plunge and got the Echo. I am quite pleased. Does anyone know if the battery notification can be modified to show 1% battery increments? This would help a lot to keep an eye on the battery life.

I use 'Battery Widget'. It will display 1% increments, but it's a widget and not on the notification bar. A custom battery indicator would need to be made to see 1% increments in the notification bar.
