I know, most of the time the issue is clearing apps out of memory! However, I am trying out AVX by Bulletproof software. For those who don't know, it's a Siri-like virtual assistant that has more functionality than any other va I've tried, other than Siri, and I've tried most. (I like being able to talk to my phone.) One of its capabilities that I really like is that it can run in the background and "wake up" when you say a designated phrase. This drains the battery and so is really only useful when the phone is plugged in, but mine almost always is when I'm in the car, and much of the time at work and at home. My issue is, though, that after a while, Android unloads it from memory. So, even though it's running, it doesn't "hear" it's wakeup phrase. I can tell that's what's happening because if I bring the app to the foreground, it has a progress bar showing that it is loading and if I try to do anything, it (very politely) asks me to wait just a moment. Is there any way to keep Android from offloading the app from memory? I know it may result in performance issues for other apps and I may decide that it's not worth it, but I'd like to try it and see. Phone is an unrooted Galaxy Note (original) recently updated to Jellybean.
