Any working wifi calling apps on Fascinate?

I'm not sure if here's the right place to ask, but found my question is not seriously discussed elsewhere - so perhaps it's device related, or only happens on Verison Fascinate.

Wifi calls are widely used nowdays. Tons of apps running on various android phones. Airtime or money can be saved this way.

My story in short, is that I cannot make Sipdroid (a voip client app) working well on Fasciante. Surely I can make the same Sipdroid working well through other phone (like HTC Incredible) on the same wifi network through the same Google Voice account.

It can connect, but the voice quality is terribly poor - not acceptable at all.

So at this point I'm wondering: Is anyone here using any wifi calling app on your Fascinate?

If yes, what's the app and the sip configuration you are using?

FYI, I do tried other apps like GrooveIP, but got the same poor performance of wifi calling. So I think it might be the problem of the device.

If you happen to have any idea, I'll appreciate of letting me know.

Thank you.

well you can try fring its pretty good just that you have to have a SIP account

Thank you for your reply. I do see the light on the end of tunnel.

One more question:

Are you sure the Fring makes FREE wifi calls, i.e., PURELY wifi == WITHOUT costing your airtime. In this regard, it's equivilant to GrooveIP / SipDroid ?

And also, are you using Fring with Google Voice? or any other SIP end? (forgive my blankness if I don't get what is SIP. I actually have Google Voice account and just wnat to connect it with fringe, if possible)

Many thanks.

Won't Skype work? I don't mean the crap crippled version that verizon bundles with the phone, but the full app you can download from the market. I called out over Wifi w/ mine. Or am I misunderstanding something?

Close but no cigar for some users. Skype costs you per minute to call out to a DID (instead of skype to skype) plus it costs you monthly if you want your own DID (so people can call you from anywhere). SIP services can do both of these things for pretty much free (at least in the continental US.)

So yes if you are OK paying a bit (honestly the smooth integration of Skype is worth it if you do ANY amount of calling) then Skype solves all of this. I have played with SIP services and while they are possible to use, they are a huge PITA (and this is coming from a software engineer who is very familiar with VOIP under-the-hood.)
