My father and I Geocache all the time, and his Droid is extremely accurate GPS, even more so than his Garmin Rhino he says. It will be interesting to see if the X compares with the GPS.

It's all based of that website you put up, but theres like conventions and such where you meet up with other cachers, and when you start getting friends and family in on it, its like a little competition.

Wow, didn't know the X might just be replacing my Garmin as well!

I work with the BLM and frequently visit Geocash sites to make sure the cashers aren't wrecking the environment. Kinda got into the hobby that way.

How does your gps work if you don't have service?

Just because you don't have phone service doesn't mean you don't have GPS, they are two separate radio bands. Hell if you don't have a signal on your X, it can lead you via GPS to somewhere you do!

Not a geocacher, but I geotag all of the photos I take of fish I catch on my trips. Glad to see the X has a tag feature on the camera.

Soon to be ex-GeoCache Navigator user

I've been a Blackberry user for 2 years now and have given up on the platform. I'm counting down the days to make the android jump and swap my Storm 1 for a Droid X - actually hours is more like it. Geocaching is a great activity and excuse to get the kids off the TV and out into the real world. I loved Trimble's GeoCache Navigator - you can in the field access previous logs from past visitors, access the hints the hider left, and record your findings via field notes. I have researched a little into GeoBeagle as it sounds like the nearest substitute. Anybody have prior experience with Navigator and is currently using GeoBeagle or any other program for comparison?

Nice, you going to get an X, or just posting on the thread, out of curiosity.

LOL- yes I am planning on getting the X. That is why I am here to learn all about the ins and outs of the phone. ;) I have seen this app in action on another Android phone, so I wanted to let you guys know about it.

I am slow to get in here, but I tried two apps on my Droid and they are super!

I prefer the free GeoBeagle because of the way it interfaces with the geocaching.com site. I now much prefer my Droid to my Garmin collection and that is kind of sad. I have a Garmin GPSMAP60CS and my Droid will smoke it for accuracy and locking in on a destination. The Google mapping is wonderful as well. I just wish I had a couple of spare batteries as the gps seems to drain the phone battery pretty quickly, four hours or so normally. If I am rural caching where we drive a few miles between caches so it can recharge some, life is good!

I also bought the Cachemate app and it works great as well. It is really nice with both apps to be able to run a pocket query, download it into the phone off an email, then open it with Cachemate or GeoBeagle. No entering of coordinates at all and everything is so fluid with these apps, it is a beautiful thing!

GeoBeagle has an internal link to Geocaching.com and when you take that link, it shows the caches closest to your current location. I really enjoy the benchmark side of the site as well. By checking every once in a while through GeoBeagle, I have managed to snag some really interesting benchmarks. Before, I had to search them out before I left the house. This is wonderful! Enjoy!

I added c:geo to my phone. Havent gotten a chance to try it yet but I played around with it. It seems very user friendly. I will start shortly. Looks like alot of fun!
