I have an OG Droid and Droid 2 on Verizon. I just cancelled service, because my job ended up giving everyone Sprint phones, and it was just stupid having two phones at one time. I hooked up an old Palm Pre I had laying around to the work line, and quickly remembered all the things I hated about it. I was looking at buying (off contract) a new sprint phone for work, but I really don't want a 4g phone. I'm not sure the company would even hook it up if it was 4g. All the managers get blackberry's, and regular employees are given Rumor 2's. I was thinking about grabbing an XPRT since the keyboard layout would be great for work, but I am also concerned coming from 3.7" phones that I will be disappointed and want more.

thoughts?

I came from an Epic, which I believe is exactly 3.7 and has a beautiful display..... I don't miss it a bit.

That being said, you have to take into account that it was my first Android phone after 6 years of Blackberry addiction. As much as I love the way the Android OS feels 21st century, I literally hated the size and added bulk of the Epic. Most other Droid phones were out because of the lack of keyboard. My wife has had the Hero and now has the original Evo so I have played around enough to know I need a physical qwerty to survive..lol

I have been in cell phone heaven sense the switch. What I really miss is the camera not the screen size; The Epics camera was insanely good. Besides, at 3.1 inches, its not like you have to squint to read emails...;)

I came from an EVO, and while I do miss having all that screen real estate, I really enjoy having a keyboard more than a large screen. I came from a BlackBerry, then entered the world of android with an HTC Hero, and then the EVO. I was excited when the XPRT came because of the keyboard, and excitedly traded a larger screen for the use of a keyboard. I do wish it had a bigger screen for web browsing, I always have to zoom in for non-mobile sites.

So in essence, if you really really want the convenience of a keyboard, you'll learn to live with the smaller screen.

I agree with your bottom-line... It really is just a matter of taste....

I might add that for me personally, 95% of what I do most with my phone isn't affected one bit by having a screen .6 inches smaller than my Epic. And the speed i gain in texting and replying to emails easily makes up for the 5% that is affected...:D

I also came from an evo and dont miss it at all. This phone is so confortable and ease to use the keyboard in my opinion is great. Im loving this phone

This thread is great. My wife currently activated an Evo coming from a Blackberry. She really misses the Keyboard and I'm considering this as an upgrade when my time comes and swapping phones with her. Since it seems like a few people have come from Blackberry, can I get a few thoughts or opinions on how the keyboard feels and compares to Blackberry?

Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

As I stated in another thread, the XPRT's keyboard is so Blackberry like I am surprised Rim hasn't sued... lol

Of course there is a learning curve if you are coming straight from a Blackberry device. The most obvious difference is the number placement. Which should not be a problem since the touchscreen will be where you dial any non-contact number anyway. .... The keyboard is also a little more cramped because it is a thinner device, but it isn't too much of a difference from a Curve 3g.

The hardest thing a Blackberry user will have to deal with is UN-learning all the little shortcuts RIM offers in their OS.... OR... you could just wait and pick up the Blackberry Bold touchscreen device dropping late Aug,

I have had experience with the Droid Pro which is basically the same phone. I liked the keyboar,d, but it isn't as good as the BlackBerry keyboard. The keyboard on the BlackBerry Bold 9650 was almost perfect and the keyboard on the Bold 9000 is perfect.

Right on about the 9000, what a GREAT device that was! I like this phone alot too but...for a perfect phone, needs more memory, better keyboard dictionary, better res screen wouldn't hurt. For now, I'll settle with 2.3

I'm happy to see this forum - I come from an evo 4g and just recently from the evo 3d (which I didn't like at all). I turned it in and I've reactivated an old pre. My 2nd phone (for work) is a BB Style which I'm getting used to -- like one day, hate the next. But I do miss android and I was checking the forums for another android -- the XPRT sounds really good. The one thing I do dislike about the Style is no touchscreen, so the XPRT seems like the best of both worlds. My old eyes did appreciate the extra screen space on the evo -- can the font size be adjusted on the xprt? Too many decisions --- trying to figure out if I should wait and see how the photon looks, but the large bar phones are sounding less and less appealing.

I'm using a Pre, and considering jumping to Android to taste that app-goodness everyone talks about. Friends tell me this is an underpowered phone, but the form factor appeals to me. So thanks for the user comments on this thread.

I find nothing about the XPRT "underpowered".. .. It has plenty of internal memory and has a 1ghz processor that handles everything it's made for. Everything runs smooth and fast like it should. Heck by todays standards, the Evo 4g is underpowered and it is still a fantastic phone.

Remember, this is not designed to be an entertainment powerhouse like the Evo, Epic, and Photon are, so keep that in mind when considering your jump into Android land.

Sorry but your epic actually has a 4 inch screen. You basically reduced your screen size by 25% or .9 inch. Just wanted to correct your facts.

I had the evo3d for a month, then went to a pre. I do miss the larger screen. as for the xprt, i got a chance to play around with it today and its a tight little phone. very impressed by the ease of use of the keyboard and general snappiness of the UI. the dual core version rumored to be coming out soon should be more than adequate for any user looking for a keyboard slab. I kinda wish it was more like the Dell Venue Pro, 4" screen with a slide out keyboard.

There's been a lot of requests for slide out keyboards (portrait), which is starting to get me thinking it's probably not a bad idea.

Im coming from a blackberry bold 9650. The xprt is everything i wanted in the blackberry and TONS more but with a larger screen. I tried the evo and the evo shift and i decided that i didnt want to bother sliding out a keyboard and even though the Evo has a large screen, i cant type well on a virtual keyboard and i send tons of texts and emails per day. So although the xprt keyboard is not the same as blackberry, its damn close.

Coming from the Web OS camp'
My only beef against the XPRT is that it is not 4G.
If Motorola came out with a 4G version they would fly off the shelves.

Contrary to popular belief's physical keyboards sell

It is an accepted practice that Android phones have poor battery life.
With that said the XPRT has the longest battery life of any android phone available.
Now I dont know what happens if you add 4G to this phone , and that might be the trade off.
4G and short battery life or 3G and long battery life.
If thats the case then 3G is not so bad
