I'm getting around 10kb/s download speeds for the past 4 days  usually get at least 180kb/s, this is ridiculous!

network problem.

if thats not your AVERAGE speed that you normally get, and it persists for awhile, and your not changing PRL or roms. its probably attributed to network congestion or if they are doing maintenance or testing new features.

whatever the case, im sure people in your area are flooding VM with calls anyways, i hope it they resolve it soon. speeds are fine here. fluctuate from day to night but steady in the past few weeks, between 0.5 and 1.5 megabits rarely hitting 2Mbs

*EDIT* I should really browse a bit before i start replying randomly... http://forums.androidcentral.com/virgin-mobile-optimus-v/150421-data-throttling-starts-3-23-a.html http://forums.androidcentral.com/virgin-mobile-optimus-v/150421-data-throttling-starts-3-23-a.html

Yes i have seen a difference also. Can't tell ya speed differences, but i know its much slower. I also don't have internet at home, and use my OV for my desktop. I didn't think it was a lot of usage, but i wanted to see so i downloaded an app to track my usage. One month with normal internet usage for me ate up 40+GB. I figured it was because of this that i saw my speeds going down.

Until I got one of their text messages today stating that beginning .....crap i forgot the date....i think march, but may have been February third.

Anyway it said that you may see a decrease in data speeds if your usage goes over 2.5GB.
Now, that date is not here, but i would think they would be testing the code out before fully implementing that policy.

I don't know what your usage is like, but i'm pretty sure MY account would be a good account to "test" the new code on.

Just a stab in the dark

Your honesty is rare. However even tho you're being honest I still have to say you are the reason for the data throttling. I understand not having internet at home and wanting the ability to surf. However please consider contacting your local representative and cable or land line provider and seeing what it would take to get regular internet.

Last year when people realized you didnt have to root the optimus v to use it as a wifi hotspot sales shot through the roof. Then we seen days at a time with crappy service. I think one user was without service for almost a week iirc.

I had a total outage this morning, wouldn't even connect to a 3G network. Things are back to normal now though, it seems. Just as "speedy" as ever.

Data throttling starts March 23. Ill be on Verizon by then lol I value my unlimited data.

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

I generally get 300kbps/500kbps with a 600+ms latency anyway. Last I decided to check, I've never used more than 1.3GB of bandwidth. 256kbps doesn't seem like a very punishing limit. ;)

Bye.

Curious did you research the Verizon plans? ATT and Verizon were the first to throttle users. Currently the only way to get unlimited data on Verizon is if you were grandfathered in. They have tiered usage now. Also Verizon has stated that if they find out a user is tethering without paying for the plan they will add the service to your account without giving you the chance to stop.

People understand this will not affect most of us. They are not limiting how much data we get but how fast we get it. If your able to get the full 3G speeds and hit the cap then you should re-evaluate your usage. And another carrier probably would be better. But leaving because they are capping data SPEEDS is asinine.

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

The funniest part is that his new cap may actually be lower than Virgin's.

And as you said the others are capped, we are only throttled, I'll take throttled over capped any day. I known darn good and well it will cut me off exactly when I need it most.

Right, I don't get why people are just leaving one of the "CHEAPEST" and non contract plans just because of throttling. Like some others said, our speeds are kinda slow anyway, and places like Verizon charge you through the roof for 100GB of data, which seeing how some of you talk, switching would be very "bad" for you. But I guess that's just me, whatever maybe with those people gone we'll get decent speeds for the most part like eolie said.

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

I've found that over a period of 2 months that my DL speed has dropped to a measly 15-22k. Super friggin slow! :( Seriously VM.....wtf is up with that?

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

If it is always that bad, consider running activate (may need to restore or flash Harmonia 1x). Could be something odd with your radio. Failing that, I would call VM if it is always that bad.

They are working on more servers and things though, on top of throttling the abusers. Things have been getting a little better, but some of it could just be the abusers running to T-Mobile. Good riddance I say.

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

Maybe its just me, but I see tons of people walking around with Virgin phones, particularly optimi. Thats definitely draining on the data speeds.

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

I re-activated my phone....so we'll see how it performs tomorrow at work. I only have 1 bar of signal here at home and don't have good signal until I'm in town. :P

Re: Anyone else encountering EXTREMELY SLOW data speeds on VMusa

When most people average 256kbps, how is throttling going to deter people from using tons of data? Throttling doesn't help the network nor does it deter people from using data...
