Anyone else had this issue? Pixel XL screen cracked due to extreme temperature change?!

Went outside ( it was cold for couple of min ) and I was on my phone( Pixel XL). Then went back inside and put the phone in my back pocket. Did not sit on it or anything but found the phone later to have a crack on the corner. Did not drop the phone ( at least since the last time I saw it without a crack). I had heard this happening before on other phones... That's the only possible explanation right?! Im returning the phone and getting a Pixel. Too many issues with LTE connectivity with this one. Constantly disconnects and connects. Hope Pixel doesn't crack by itself in extreme temp change ( smaller , less expansion?)

Has anyone else had his issue ( the screen crack)?

What were the ambient temperatures in the two environments?

Okay. I think that both those are inside the range of operating temperatures for an average phone. Whether a crack could occur after such a relatively short exposure, I don't know, but spontaneous cracks certainly occur for other reasons. It may, or may not, be that the glass was already stressed in that area, and the temperature change triggered it, though I don't know that that could be proved by any analytic method.

There's this from Google:

Also, I'll request the Moderators to move the thread to the Pixel XL forum for other opinions.

Why does everyone think this is a problem? So far as I know, it is supposed to do that.

LTE is used for data. If the phone is not currently transferring data, there is no reason to maintain an LTE connection which consumes additional power and network resources.

That is definitely not an extreme temperature change. I did some research a while ago, and while I don't remember the details, I do remember the conclusion.

No way will a phone in normal use ever encounter thermal stress high enough to cause the glass to crack.

I don't know what phone you use that does that but none of my phones have disconnected from LTE when not in use. They maintain the LTE connection and just sit idle.
