It seems over the past week I have been having issues with not getting text messages. I am using Handcent. Anyone else having the same problem?

I went back to Handcent last week after a period away from it. I had issues with threads. I could open the app and see the list of threads, but when I opened any of them there was no conversation. A reboot fixed it, but it happened more than once, so I deleted Handcent once again.

I've had the app for a couple months and haven't had any problems with it until about a week ago. I know there was an update recently so I am wondering if that might have something to do with my issues now.

Mine was force closing after I flashed to das BAMF Forever 1.0.7 but I went to the Market and downloaded the update. You can always try uninstalling and reinstalling. I was a huge huge HANDCENT fan and then I tried GoSMS and love it better. I still have Handcent on my phone and use it on occasion but my main SMS is GoSMS. You can assign individual notification tones to specific people.

I'm using go sms and having this problem even deleted and went stock and is still having this problem

I'm using ChompSMS and I'm having the problem. Just realized I haven't received a text in two days so I had someone send me one to be sure and it's confirmed. I can send but not receive them.

I'm using GoSMS and the problem cropped up on me yesterday. I had been texting all morning and then (suddenly) I could send but wasn't receiving anything. I pulled the battery and it corrected the issue. It's already happened to me again this morning and another battery pull fixed it. With people using different apps (or even stock) and experiencing the problem, it's gotta be either the phone or Verizon.

FYI - Just got off the phone with Tier 2 Support at Verizon. He said the only problem they're aware of with text messages is that the phone will still send messages to the wrong people if using stock SMS and asked me to download Handcent (because that's their workaround to that problem). I explained that I was already using GoSMS. He went and got a phone and attempted to recreate the problem using GoSMS but couldn't. Of course, his next recommendation was to perform a factory reset which I will not do. Supposedly, they haven't received other complaints on this. If you haven't already, please call Verizon and open a ticket. Nothing will get fixed if we don't keep on them. Thanks!

Odd, since the original VZW OTA GB update sheet specified that it "fixed" text messages being sent to the wrong recipient.

The comment from the rep had nothing to do with the messages being sent to the wrong recipient. As I said in my comment, they recommend that we use a 3rd party app to workaround that problem until they have a fix. His comment was about what I reported...the phone just stops receiving text messages.

Thanks! I will call and report it. I know for me what has seemed to work is powering off and then powering back on. But that's a nuisance.

it is not the phone's hardware. (well, in my case it wasnt)
2 days ago i had the same problem. im still on froyo (couldnt grab 2.3 in time).

I could send out texts but not receive them. at the time i had go sms as my default, and i also had handcent as well as chomp sms installed on my device too.

i noticed that even from the vzw site, sending myself a text message would not go thru, UNLESS, it was under this 1 condition: when sending yourself a test text message, select URGENT instead of NORMAL and pull battery and sim card out for a few min... after reboot, i would get that test txt msg.

so i was scratching my head wondering, so texts are getting thru - the do come thru, but just under that circumstance. (during my testing phase, i bugged many family members to text me to see if they would come thru - never did, and on my wife's end, when i told her to check the msg details of her outgoing msg to me, it said "pending").

So thats when i called 611 to get help. first tier rep tried to help me and said if he doesnt he's transferring me over to heavier tech support. And after trial and error with no positive results, he transferred me. The 2nd guy was awesome. He dived in deeper into the system and noticed that i was somehow missing (dont quote me 100% on this): the addresses for short messaging (something like that).

He mentioned also to go ahead and uninstall all the 3rd party messaging apps i have (even though I've had them all from when phone came out with no text msging problem) and so i did.
after instructing me to then pull battery as well as sim, and putting it all back, MY MESSAGES WERE COMING IN!!! (this was all on stock app)

I was getting messages!! they started coming in, even some older ones from when the problem started, but not all of the ones my family members had sent. After about a couple of hours, things balanced out, and i was back on track and getting ALL messages sent to me.

it was so strange to suddenly not be able to receive txts but be able to send them. this guy knew exactly what he was doing and targeted the area needed. It took time too.

i reinstalled go sms as my default and no problems what so ever!

if your phone is still not getting txt msgs and you want to go this route, just go ahead and start a call from a different phone line (that has plenty battery too). took a while but its all fixed and im happy :D again!

good luck. hopefully gets fixed for you too!

PS: Also, i too was worried i would have to do a factory reset or even change to a new phone which i told rep i want to avoid both to the fullest. They helped me out and as mentioned, it wasn't hardware, only a coding issue on their end.

Thanks. What is odd is that the issue of not getting text messages is sporatic. So I will wait until the next time I stop receiving messages and then call for help.

I had to restart my phone yesterday to get data connectivity back.

Soon after, I received a "huh?" messages from my wife.

The phone had finally delivered a message I thought was sent out a week ago, which was right in the middle of an SMS conversation we had been having. I had toggled airplane mode to get data back at least twice a day for a week, but it was rebooting the phone that caused that message to finally "unstick" and send.

You can grab it here. It is the one I originally used before I went to das BAMF
ThunderBolt ORIGINAL Gingerbread OTA

thanks for the link,
though i understand that if i install it this way, it will do a factory reset in the process and erase all, except the SD card. (I still have a backup made with MyBackup, but still)

i have to find the time to read about rooting and then just do it. I don't need to read why i want to root as i know why, it's just to find the proper window of time to execute it without any stress is what i'm looking for.
