Seems kind of fishy for them to just remove it all together since Skype still haven't gotten their act together and come out with an official app for android. I contacted them and got this response...

"Please note that the Skype Lite application is no longer available for
download from our site. We?ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite because we
want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience ? much
like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and is now
available on Symbian phones. Our focus is on providing a rich user
experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost
calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop.

We felt that Skype Lite does not offer the best possible Skype
experience."

Dunno if this means they are going to be coming out with an official version soon (especially since verizon is coming out with a skype android app soon) but I figured I would ask if anyone else had information on Skype or VOIP in general.

Verizon announced that it will come out with a super duper sweet skype for its smartphones here in a month or so.

That could have something to do with it.

And Skype did come out with an official app, but it was still Beta.

I'd love it if they come out with an app that can do real VOIP calling from the phone, rather than the Skype Light that they were using (which uses your minutes to call a local number and then routes your call using VOIP from there.)

the NEW skype when it hits verizon can do that.

=(

Seems insane to me that the "more open" system android would not have a skype voip application available while the iPhone has a skype application that is amazing...

So now even when verizon gets the skype application on android T-Mo will be left out in the dark? =(

Frustrating

I am sure that skype came to everyone with their idea and verizon was the one whom accepted. Blame your carrier, not skype.
