Anyone every get Android Auto to work?

Seems this is still extremely immature. I rented a 16 Sonata on vacation. Android 7 on my DT2, AA installed, Bluetooth paired with the car and USB plugged in. Under settings and managed cars, the Sonata is not detected. I've been messing with the auto detect new cars feature and nothing ever happens. Never used this app before. Apparently they have A LONG way to go to make it approach anything resembling reliable. AA app on the car never shows as being available. I can play music over Bluetooth in the car without issue. AA is nothing but frustration and wasted time.
