So - Bixby was finally 'unpacked' today. Kind of exciting, I think... not sure lol

What does everyone make of it? Excited to give it a spin?

Absolutely. This looks baked into the os a lot more and just provides a smarter experience. It seems far more intuitive to what you're actually doing compared to other assistants. Looks super cool!

Bixby definitely has a lot of potential. As most things starting out, it looks to be quite limited but I can see great things coming from it.

I am looking forward to it. It's starting to feel like Christmas again!

It sounds good in the keynote -- I will have to wait to see people use it. Just like the Pixel w/ Google Assistant .. Sounded amazing but wasn't as great as they hyped it up to be. I still use it a lot and don't hate it but it isn't this amazing "end all / do all" as they like to act.. will have to see if Bixby is the same.

If Bixby really makes it easy to navigate phone tasks by voice, I will certainly use it. With a manic little grandson to take care of for several hours a day, I am often in need of a third hand, and this might actually qualify. Will have to see how it implements and what apps it works with, but I am very interested in it.

Probably but I think it'll be crap compared to what Google can do. But no harm in trying and will give it a shot.

i do not think bixby is trying to do what google assistant does. looks like samsung is trying to carve out a new niche for bixby. i am looking forward to it.

From what I've seen, it looks like Bixby is going to be different from Google Assistant. Bixby's charter is to help you navigate the phone and the software within it. Google Assistant can do some of that, but it's really more in alignment with what Google does - search. I think anywhere you need to find something or get information, GA will be great...but the ecosystem around Bixby is going to focus on navigating hardware and software functions.

Exactly, I think the focus of bixby is really going to be different then most other ai's

The S8 still has Google Assistant. I love Samsung hardware. I've owned several of their phones. I am not wild about the software though. To me it is just bloatware. But, my wife loves it. I just spend about an hour getting rid of most of the Samsung and Verizon software. My perfect world would be great Samsung hardware and minimum software. Plus the Exynos processor. This is just my opinion. Still a beautiful phone. Man, Samsung makes a gorgeous display.

I agree. The new software does looked slimmed down a little more with the exception of Bixby. I think it will be nice to have both Bixby and Google Assistant as Bixby seems to be able to do more phone related tasks and Google is all the information you need at your fingertips. Could make for a powerhouse combo if Bixby works as intended.

I don't think Bixby is going to be ready for prime time at launch. When I looked at the list of Bixby enabled apps on the demo unit at Best Buy tonight I was surprised by how few were included. Was really disappointed to see that text messaging wasn't included. Guess I'll have to do that through Google for now.
