Anyone experienced using losing phone connection completely?

I have noticed that often my ATT HTC One X phone would show zero bars - the little x would be shown next to the bars indicating cell signal strength. I would miss calls in such cases. This is in areas (such as my home) where I know I have signal connectivity (a little below average if not best). If I touch and open the Phone app then suddenly cell signal strength is restored and then I can make call. Typically, cell signal strength is about 2-3 bars but I can make calls in such cases.

Any idea what could be the reason? Anyone else have encountered this problem before?

I am running the latest OTA 4.0.4 stock rom - never unlocked or rooted the phone - it always has been on the stock ROM or updated via OTA updates.

Thanks,
Osho

My One X shows 4G LTE and i get no Internet access whatsoever. At the AT&T store they did a factory reset and put a new APN on my phone. The new APN does exactly what you describe. I'm getting a replacement because I have literally no Internet access other than wifi for now on my 1X.

Thanks for the info cbatiste1993. My problem is not jut with Internet access but with basic phone connectivity. Sometimes, the basic phone feature will just stop working.

When the HOX (or any ATT phone in my experience) is in a no signal area for "long enough", it will stop trying to get reconnected to the network even when it should be able to. You have to toggle airplane mode, and it comes back (I will have to try hitting the phone app instead). My wife sees this happen when she puts her phone in a metal filing cabinet for an hour or so at her work. I see it every day at work, and toggle airplane mode on when I get to work, and off when I leave. Same thing happened with the old Captivate (this has been my routine for a couple years now).

When this happens, are you in a low/no signal area?

Yep mine loses all connections and shows the X next to the signal bars and i lose wifi when it does that too. My replacement will be here Monday so i only have a few more days to deal with this problem. The thing that made my day was that every single AT&T rep in the College Station store has a HOX and said they preferred it over a GS3.

Yes, that is typically always the case that it is in low signal area but not no signal area. It is really annoying that it will do this as often as it does this.

Thanks,
Osho

How did you manage to convince AT&T to send you a replacement?

Thanks,
Osho

I went into the store and let the customer rep take a look and she saw that it wouldn't connect to anything so we factory reset it and it still didn't work so she called warranty and they ended up just sending me a replacement. I was at the AT&T store for nearly 3 hours though.

I seem to run into this, but my house isn't in a low signal area. In fact, I usually have full bars when I'm home. I didn't think about opening the phone app to fix it, but put it into and out of airplane mode. I wonder why it does this sometimes? My girlfriend's doesn't have this problem, and it's very infrequent that it happens to me (maybe once every 2-3 weeks). The fact that it does happens worries me, though.
