Anyone got the OTA Update?

I'm avoiding it because I don't want to go thru days of re-setting my settings, etc. I've had good luck with restoring most apps with Ti Backup, but this one is screwing me up.

If anyone is rooted, with a decent file-explorer and has a stock (not upgraded) copy of /system/app/QuickOffice.apk and /system/app/QuickOffice.odex and can post them or otherwise send them my way, I would be much obliged.

Thanks,
AJ

Yeah, but I actually UNINSTALLED "Social Location", because it was running all the time and using battery, and freezing it didn't do anything to slow it down (and I don't need or want it). But Ti Backup won't restore it for some reason.

I also uninstalled QuickOffice, because I bought QuickOffice Pro, and figured I didn't want both on the phone.

Other than that, I tried unfreezing everything else, and unrooting and it still failed. :(

This is why the update is failing, you need all the "bloatware" in place because if the update does nto see it, it will fail. Never EVER delete files. Always rename the extensions to BAK and keep them on your phone. That way they never run because the extensions were renamed and it is very simple to rename the BAK back to APK and do the update.

The only way you'll be able to do the update now is if some kind person who is also rooted sends you a copy of the APK files you removed so you can add them back.

Ok, so what good is the backup / restore functionality in Ti backup if I can't count on it to restore the files it backed up in the first place?

Thanks for all the lectures about not removing files without any constructive help.

I used Titanium Backup to move all user apps onto SD card, then did a system data reset. The phone is now plain vanilla, as far as I know. (Unless it's rooted, and I don't know how I can tell.) ALL the missing bloatware apps are now back.

The update STILL fails at the same point.

See if you have a log in /cache/recovery. I think I found some information at the end of it.

Just got mine. My only issue was data not reconnecting after smart actions disabled it. Hopefully that's fixed now.

Mine worked fine before the update, now it is not reconnecting.

Whoever wrote that installation program should have his H1-B visa revoked. An intelligent programmer would simply skip the unnecessary app and continue with the update, but instead the script aborts. Meanwhile we users are spending more collective effort trying to work around this guy's buggy script than he was paid to write it. And up in the executive suites, they don't care.

So it's bombing on the absence of a component of the free Google Books app which I don't believe I ever touched, but now have restored from backup, uninstalled, and reinstalled from the Market, and still cannot get it to appear in the directory where the script expects it. In fact I can't find the application now anywhere in the filesystem, yet it runs fine from the App Drawer.

I knew I should have given it a week to settle before trying to install this update. Now I have no update AND I have to rebuild my customizations.

I did mine last night and while it took a few tries...kept hanging, it finally went through. I wasn't having any issues before (had the phone for about 3 weeks), so not exciting like our Blackberry updates used to be. When I had my LG Revolution, the updates seemed to trade one set of problems for another. My daughter has that phone now, so I'm still having to deal with it. Isn't that what boyfriends are for? Jeesh.

@larry I can probably help you out with the Google books files, as I don't think I touched that app (though I don't use it either).

I agree with your frustration and sentiment.

If you know what files it's complaining about, post the details or pm me. I will be available first thing in the morning (NY time).

Mine downloaded in about 3 minutes and updated in about 10 minutes. Everything works fine. Completely stock phone no rooting no deleting. Phone works great when you don't screw it up.

Aweber, try Googling the app apks you deleted. Alot of bloat ware apps are easily found on other "markets". Download to SD card, and install. Its a shot. But if the OTA is tied to versions, then Google that too.

As for titanium, it will restore the app if you choose the option to "backup entire app", not just its settings (which is defaulted to do). I've never had issues with titanium doing what you want it to do.

We all understand your frustration. But calling our help "lectures" is not a polite thing to do. All of us on here are at different levels of experience. We are only trying to help out a user who did, no offence, something crazy.

Yes, I'm aware of how to backup an app and/or just the data. If you want to make a PSA, there are plenty of other places to do it.

Removing bloatware after making a full backup would hardly be considered crazy. But again, if you want to find a nice blog to post all of your opinions, that's fine. Unfortunately, none of it is helpful to the current problem, so while I continue to troubleshoot the issue of what the updater is looking for, and why ti backup can't restore an app, please start another thread or find somewhere else to help everyone that doesn't currently have a problem.

Btw: you can't simply install the app from the apk or the market, because it won't install in the correct place, so it's useless to the situation.

well your a real joy to listen to , take your frustrations out on yourself , or your phone . Your the one with the problem , the people who you are so rudely talking to had nothing to do with your mishap . Go back to the iPhone if you cant Hack it here.

Now THAT hurt. I have never owned an iphone, and hopefully never will!

If you look at my other posts throughout the past two years or so, you'll see that I have always tried to be more-than-helpful to anyone and everyone in the forum. So when I turn around and ask for a little help to come back my way in a frustrating situation, the last thing I need is an "I told you so" about deleting files. It's not helpful to the situation, though I understand others could benefit from that sage advice.

Like I said, I have one full-backup (App + Data) of the Quickoffice that came with the phone that TiBackup took on 11/13. I trusted that it could restore the backup if I ever needed it. Since I bought QO Pro, I didn't think I wanted both on the phone, so using Ti Pro, I removed the original app.

So I emailed the Ti Backup guys, but in the meantime was looking for some help from the community. I am honestly sorry if anyone's time was wasted reading through the posts due to the side-track. It's what I was trying to avoid in the first-place.

Happy Holidays to all.

Ran the update yesterday, unrooted phone, nothing changed/deleted. Went off without a hitch but to be honest I don't see any difference. Maybe the camera is a little quicker?

Anyone else camera now working slower?

First camera on a phone that I had respect for. Now lags

I seen that pics all around we're improved on the camera. However with the flash it does feel like theirs a little lag now. It might just be me. Without the flash i got no lag on it.
