Anyone have the VZW shell/holster combo?

I'm migrating from an HTC Touch Pro 2 to the Incredible. I haven't decided whether to opt for a screen protector, but I definitely need a belt-mounted holster.

With the TP2, I've been using the stock VZW swivel holster (VZW6875HOL). With this holster, the phone does not go in a case. Other than the holster breaking (replaced at no charge), it's been a good choice. I've never dropped the phone--or at least, not dropped it to cause any physical damage.

For the Incredible, I'm not sure what to go with. VZW's page lists various options but none similar to the TP2's swivel holster. The closest thing I've found is their Shell / Holster Combo (VZW6300HOC). The VZW rep talked me into their accessory package that includes that combo, an AC adapter, and three Verizon screen protectors (haven't decided yet whether I will use a screen protector).

Does anyone have this particular case/holster combo? Is it a decent option? How does it compare to (say) the Seidio Innocase II? (and a compatible holster)

I use it and love it. It is a bit more low profile than the Seido case and doesn't have that gawdy clip at he top like the Seido. It does swivel and does not take away from the look of the phone.

Thanks! Are you using a case? If not, have you found that to be a problem?

What's your opinion of screen protectors? I'm thinking of using neither a case nor a screen protector--just like I'm doing with my Touch Pro 2. So far (and with other phones before it), this hasn't been a problem. I don't like the smudging on the TP2...but I don't think a screen protector would necessarily help with that.

The shell provides enough protection. As far as a screen protector, I use a full screen anti glare protector. It dulls down the crispness of the screen but it keeps me from having to deal with fingerprints on the glass or on a regular screen protector. Plus it is full screen so it is alot less noticable. the Verizon protectors only cover the portion of the screen that is the actual display.

I had the shell and holster combo and dropped my phone and it did not protect it. It got chipped on the bottom left corner. It doesn't fully cover the phone all around.

I tried this case in the store and every single one I tried the phone fell out.
I am using the silicone case and an iphone leather holster from ebay :)

I've been using the Shell / Holster from Day 1 and I love it. I dropped the phone once and did zero damage. The shell makes the phone feel more secure in your hand and i like the look of it. If you wear the holster with the phone vertical, it's secure, but if you turn the holster sideways, the phone can slip out though .

I use it daily, and I found that if I try to carry it horizontally, it will wiggle out. That's happened to me twice.

If I keep it at 45? or upright, I don't have the issue at all.

Other than that, it's a great case. It keeps the phone secured screen-in, and the few times I've dropped it, the case took some scuffing, but the phone was very well protected.

Yeah like everyone else has been saying...if you have it horizontally it has a chance of slipping out but if you have it vertically it will not slip out. By it being vertical it is easy to get to and answering a call is quick and simple. I'll admit...I've dropped my phone 7 times since I have had it and I have had it in the case since day 1 and I haven't had any damage to the phone at all. To tell you the truth I can't even hardly see the damage to the case. And this is coming from me dropping it onto concrete from my driveway. With that said I believe that this case/holster combo is a pretty good deal. If it was a little more snug to the point of where it could be horizontal with no worries of it slipping out it would be perfect in my opinion. Overall it is a good buy!

I use the shell/holster combo as well, but use the silicone cover instead of the shell. Set up vertically, I haven't had any falling out problems with the hybrid combo.

Thanks, everyone! Ugh. I didn't know that the VZW shell/holster doesn't necessarily keep the phone secure when the holster is swiveled horizontally. The TP2 holster has hooks on the corner that keep the phone secure in all positions and conditions. That in itself may steer me toward a third-party solution like the Innocase II case and holster.

Thanks for info! Glad to hear some first-hand comments (both good and bad) about the VZW shell/holster.

May I ask what screen protector you use? The one thing I dislike about my TP2 is the smudges. If a screen protector will definitely help in that area then I might be persuaded to try one. And since my phone should arrive later this week, it would probably be best to apply a screen protector right from the start.

A family member purchased the standard VZW screen protectors with their Droid Eris. It doesn't quite cover the whole screen; repeated pressing of the notification pull down bar has resulted in two of the protectors coming off already. So if I opt for a screen protector, it has to cover the full screen.

Everyone: Sorry to keep mentioning screen protectors. Although there are many, many threads about this topic, I'm still not sure whether I need one with this phone.

OK! I just purchased an Invisible Shield front screen protector. I'm still not sure I need it, but I figure it best to try it first (while I still have the option) and then decide whether to keep it on or not. Only problem is, the phone will probably arrive before the protector does; I'll do my best to keep the screen pristine until the protector arrives.

I didn't care for how the shell holster combo went together on my phone....rep in the store let me play with a returned one. I ended up with the snap together read case they offer. It offers some protection but drop it from about 2 or 3 feet and it pops open as easy as anything else. Unfortunately my son did this the other day with my phone...on the driveway. At least the case took up most of the intial shock but a got a couple tiny marks on the corner of the phone.

Being how I didn't like the verizon silicon case for my storm, I didn't get that one for fear of lint attraction. I probably should have because it seems like it offers the most protection...well at least it won't just "pop off" lol.

I liked the combo until this afternoon. I had it on my belt at work, I moved my left arm and the phone flew out of the holster. Now my screen is cracked. I just ordered a new case.

Verizon shell case is okay. Don't use the holster that much. I like the feel to it. Also got the Seidio Innocase II. Gives more protection since it covers the entire phone. No exposed edges, but the feel is a lot smoother ...like the grain feel better ...I

I probably should start a new thread for this, but lets see.....

I would like to mount my incredible on my dashboard with the phone screen facing out (via a clip on the back of the phone or holster) but when i am wearing the phone, I want it screen in. Any suggestions how to do this with minimal case swapping. When I had the BB, i had a seidio that could hold the phone either direction, however when it was screen out, it wasnt very secure at all, but enuff to hold the phone on the dashboard. I bought a seidio for the hip and a knock off - copy for the dash so I didnt spend a fortune. I like the verizon shell and holster combo, but the phone cant be flipped face out with the shell on, so I thouhgt if thier was a larger phone that had a larger holster, maybe I could buy that holster to slide the incrdible in with the verizon shell still on. I know this wouldnt be very secure, but it would be enuff for the dash of my car. Any suggestions on anything or maybe a larger holster that could sort of hold the incredible with a case on? thanks

The InnoII combo will hold it securely facing in or out.

I've used the Shell / Holster combo since day one. No real added bulk, good protection and has a nice feel / grip to it. I like how you can pocket it, or put it in the holster without having to unclip or remove anything. It also doesn't interfere with screen protectors.

After DrPheta modded his silicone case in a thread, I decided to do the same with my shell to accept the new 2150mAh battery's extra bulk. After the mod, you can still use the holster... Pics are here...
