I looked allover, in the network settings and couldn't find an option to use 2g instead of 4g, the only option I could find is to completely turn off mobile networks. Any help or or insight would be awesome!

Download an app called Network from. Play Store... Free. It's icon is silver and black, with signal bars. It will take you into the hidden section on the phone where you can go between WCDMA and GSM. Works great.

Network by Phillip Mangelow. If you cant find the app you can search the developers name.

anaheimskip, not knocking your post. You helped. Just giving people another outlet. Some people like myself don't want to load their phone up with unnecessary 3rd party apps.

No problem... I frequently switch, so an app was a must. Still missing the old way I did it on my S2.

Cool I'm gonna try that thanks for everyone's responses. And yes battery life but also for when I'm at the end of my billing cycle if I'm close to running out of 4g then I'll want to be able to switch to 2g to use it for certain things instead of using all my 4g

Speaking of battery life.... this is by far THE BEST phone I've had in terms of battery life. Coming from an HTC amaze, this probably lasts me three times as long as the amaze would with average use. It really is amazing, I work at least 10 hour shifts, and usually when I get out of work and I can actually spend some time on my phone, it'll usually be around 80%- or more, and that's with all my accounts syncing throughout the day and without any power saver features on.

This is my first phone with an amoled display, every other phone has been LCD. On my HTC phones, like the amaze, the screen would always have eaten up like 90% of the battery used, but my s3 uses around 24% or something, and the screen is still really nice, hasn't bothered me one bit. Being my first amoled display phone, I have to say, I'm really really liking it. Great stuff!

As far as I know, on tmobile, even if you use up your 4g speed allowance, you're still able to use edge speeds....so you're never really internetless or being charged for it.

Right right, I meant that I want to be able to switch to 2g so I don't use up all my 4g when I'm running low. I know after my 4g is gone I still have internet over edge, but I just like to have some left at the end

Gotcha, yeah trying to load google maps or something on edge is pretty horrendous.

*#*#4636#*#* from the dialer. Device information. Change it there.

Can you tell me which network to pick for edge only? It's set on gsm auto or something like that, then there is another gsm option, aalso a wcdma option, I remember on a different phone I used to have the 4g network setting was wcdma. Do you know if that's what hspa is? Or what cuz I realized that theres no hspa setting and am wondering about that too
