I really miss this feature from my HTC m8 GPE. It wasnt perfect but I loved rasign my phone and waking it up quickly by double tapping the center. The active display is nice but not nearly as sensitive as I would like it to be and I ended u just hitting the power button most times. I feel like after a while I will wear out the power button. Anyone else with this concern?

As do I, but mine is also rooted.
You can do the "Knock Off" set up with Nova Launcher Prime which allows gestures to turn the screen off with a Double Tap.

Where do you set Double Tap to turn screen off with Nova Launcher Prime?

Get this free app from the Play Store: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...om.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en&token=-QO6xEOh
Go into Gestures and Buttons in Nova Settings.
On the Double Tap option, link that app to this gesture and voila! :)

Works perfectly. I was concerned because of the lock screen, as I have my lock screen turned off. I deleted my Knock Lock app as it required tapping in a small designated area to make it work. Now I can tap anywhere to turn the screen on of course, and now I can tap anywhere but an icon to close the screen. Excellent! Thanks for the recommendation.

Mav, I should add that this is working on my Nexus 9. I'm not sure if there's any way to double tap my Nexus 6 to wake it up without rooting it. I don't want to root it as I won't be able to get the Google updates.

Correct.
Rooting allows the wake function.
I am using CM12 version 5.0.2 so they will have any new update functions available nearly the same time as the OTA ones.
Personal preference, of course. :)

I definitely miss this feature. I had the LG G2 before I shattered the screen and loved the double tap to wake and double tap status bar to sleep features. With a screen the size of the Nexus 6 I would find these features very useful.

Although before I had the phone I wanted the double tap to wake function after using it I don't feel like I need it.

The ambient display to me makes it easy to wake up the display.

Custom roms have DT2W. You don't have to worry about updates because the roms get updated to the latest version of android as they come out. BTW, I'm running 5.0.2 on my nexus 5. Stock users are still on 5.0.1

Don't want to fiddle with your phone? That's cool. Just saying it can be done.

Errr that's because 5.0.2 was only meant for nexus tablets lol.

True, but the MOD makers usually keep them up to date.
I am running Cyanogenmod 12 and it is 5.0.2 even though it is not designed for the N6.

Sent from my Sprint Tri-Band Nexus 6.
