Nope I just tried to check for it. I was wondering the same thing about when they will release it. I thought it was supposed to be available today...

I'm new too. I believe you'll get a notification of the update. I am used to blackberrys where you could go download and self-install OS updates (if you were impatient) or just sit back and wait for your carrier to push it out to you.

It looks like you have to sit back and wait on the Droid X....until someone figures out how to unlock these phones.

No, you can check for the update on your X as well. Hit the menu button, go to settings, scroll down to "About Phone" (which is actually where a lot of useful info is) and there is a "System Updates" tab right at the top. Hit it to see if there's an update waiting for you.

Just like on a BlackBerry (coming from a Storm myself) it won't let you get it early if the carrier isn't ready to push out the update, but once the update starts to go out it may let you get it earlier than the notification would alert you to (carriers purposely stagger the notification for reasons of bandwidth and QC checks).

Edit: And no, I can't get it either yet.

They deploy the updates in stages. I believe when they pushed the updates for the Droid 1 to 2.1 it was a week or two before the update was pushed to everyone.

But this is most likely not such a big update size-wise, so I think we may see it rolled out more quickly. Hopefully on the order of a few days to get it to everyone.
