The icon indicated below appears once in a while. Anyone know what it is for? Thanks.

Not important, but even though I do have it always turned on the icon is not there all the time. Anyway, Thanks!

Only when its in use I'm assuming it will display

I am at home right now so I don't think it is in use in any way here. But it doesn't matter, I was just curious what it was. I still have other more important things to learn about this new phone. :D

Do you have a wallet-style case with credit cards? If so, the phone's NFC chip might be reading the chip on the card.

I answered this question 2 days ago... If you're experiencing short term memory loss, consult your doctor lol.

LOL indeed. I went back and looked and even though I quoted your message and commented about the expansion of notifications, it never registered that you answered it. That's what I get for including two unrelated questions in on topic. :-[

MIne does this because I have a wallet case and my bank just changed to the new style debit cards. I turn my NFC off and just turn on when needed.

I am thinking it probably doesn't hurt anything to leave it on unless it used a lot of battery. I looked through my battery usage list and don't see anything that indicates NFC but perhaps it is contained within another category? I read the NFC is only active when the screen is on anyway.

I will install a Battery Monitor and see if that shows anything. I had GSam on my old phone but I see there are lots of them so will research which one might be most comprehensive.

And the icon itself is not an issue taking up space on the status bar because on my phone at least it is hidden until you pull down the notification shade.

Post what you find out. I kept getting notifcations about the NFC so that's when I decided to turn it off.
