Anyone tried the CM9 Release Candidate yet? What's working?

The release candidate is now available and I'm considering putting it on but I've never rooted before and I need certain things to work (e.g. camera). Has anyone here tried it on their device yet?

The link: CyanogenMod Downloads

I'm currently waiting for toro to upload. Should be good, but I presume it's probably a few nightlies back in terms of features and such.

Is GooglePlay included on CM9? If not, how do I get it?

You must download GAPPs. These are flashed AFTER you flash the rom.

GAPPs for CM9 are available here Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps (generally) and here Goo.im Downloads - Downloading gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip (specifically).

Thus, when you flash this rom, you must:

[INFO]
  1. Download both the CM9 RC1 zip and the GAPPs zip, put them on your SDcard
  2. Reboot into recovery, make a backup/nandroid
  3. Do a FULL WIPE--data/cache/dalvik
  4. Flash CM9 RC1 zip
  5. Flash GAPPs zip
  6. Reboot

I'm gonna give it a spin for a day or two just say I can say I did ;)

Been running it for almost 24 hours now. Knee jerk reaction is that it is the smoothest running rom I have used. Overall very snappy and responsive. The mods on it are nice too, very well done and thought out. My hats off to the cyanogen team. Running it with the cyanogen kernal, got good not great battery life today. Will go a couple more days with cyanogens kernal to see how everything settles in before I go back to old reliable matr1x kernal. :)

Been running for a day as well and so far feels great. It's been as smooth and stable as Bugless Beast with all the Cyanogenmod customization. Haven't noticed anything broken yet, but I haven't been able to test Wimax because Phoenix lacks it. Tether and camera works.

I have been running it for 24 hours now but was disappointed with the battery life so went ahead and installed Matrix ver.22 and seems to be much better, though need more time to actually test. I have always stuck with Bugless Pete's ROM's before, this seems every bit as smooth.

This has the best boot animation I've seen yet. I too loaded matr1x 22 on it, and its been running great.

I've been running stock for >24 hours.

Bootani is pretentious.

Battery is excellent.

3G is typical. Wifi is fine. GPS lock was instant with GPS Status and GPS Test apps.

Smooth operation and integrates fine with Nova launcher.

No FCs.

No reboots.

I see no need to flash matrix or any other kernel, but probably will for comparison.

I flashed over the CM 3/29 release. Never flashed a nightly.

I was running stock kernel and only getting 8-10 hours battery life. I switched over to matr1x v22. The difference in performance has been negligible but the difference in battery life has been phenomenal. I accidentally forgot to plug my phone in last night and still had 32% battery life left after 20 hours being unplugged.

I've been having issues with BLN on the stock kernel since the 6/23 nightly, not sure what they changed. Might be time for a custom kernel.

I was running this since it's release and it was working great, today however it just stopped being able to receive text messages. I was using GO! for texts and cleared the data for that, then removed it and went to the stock app. No luck.

Wiped Davlik and Cache but still no luck. Did a full wipe and re-flashed with still no results. My wife doesn't have a problem receiving my texts so I know it's not Sprint.

Gonna try CM9]-=NexusMV 4G or just go back to Bugless Beast till I the next release and try it again

EDIT: So after flashing back to Bugless Beast I was able to get texts, through Google Talk. I was having voicemail issues and had removed it, well when I did I guess the setting to receive texts in the texting application was set to only receive them in GT. Changed the setting and it works like butta.

I was wondering if ROMs like this have the ability to improve charging times? Don't know if I got a "bad" N4G, but goodness gracious. Three hours to fully charge is just painful.

Can you submit a bug report to CM so they can fix the issue you had?
