Anyone with a rooted Kindle try Google Voice?

Google this... "google voice 0.4.2.38 apk" You will find it, I did. :)

Edit: And now my Kindle has a phone #... Weird.

What dialer are you using?? I can't seem to figure out how to make calls.

Google Voice needs a cell connection to make calls. But you can send and receive text messages using your GV number using wifi.

Ah, I've seen some threads talking about them using it over wifi using a dialer, (after an update) but never what dialer. My son wanted to see it work, and figured I was just missing something.

I don't know if there are workarounds that let you use Google Voice to make calls over wifi, but I use GV on my phones and it won't make calls without a cell connection. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a way to make wifi calls using a mod or some other program in conjunction with GV, but it's not a feature I've looked into.

I use my GV number to route calls to different phone numbers and to text message without having to pay for a text messaging plan. Google Voice also offers pretty cheap international calling rates so it's handy if you make calls outside the US.

The fire doesn't have a microphone to make calls anyway. Just text.

All you need is a mic enabled headset... Found this, so Skype and Gvoice don't work, but some apps do pick up the mic... I guess it's getting worked on to enable the full access to mic use. (It's currently stifled in the software on the Fire...)
