AoD question?

Hey Folks.

Im still on Stock 7.0 (Dec)..

Can I set the AoD to come on only when I pick up or touch my S8, so its not ON when its in my pocket or its just sitting on my desk.. I do have the schedule set to turn off overnight

I realise its an ALWAYS ON display and not an Ambient display, but can this be done..

Unfortunately, nope. You can have it turn off the screen in dark places (turn on 'pocket detection' in the display settings, but it also works when the phone is facing down) but that's it.

There's an option to show at-a-glance notification info when you wave your hand on top of the proximity sensor, but that doesn't work with all app notifications and it's not the AOD that comes on.

I set that option.. to turn off in my pocket... but I didnt realise it was for the AoD, I just thought it was for any buttons being accidentally pressed while walking.. but i didnt know about the screen face down feature though... I guess thats something...

It wouldve be nice for SS to make the AoD into an Ambient in Oreo... It is useful from time to time, but it just seems like a pointless waste of battery..

I do still love my S8, its a fantastic phone.. it was a toss up between the S8 and the Pixel 2 XL, but I settled on the S8 because of the sheer amount of interesting software, the updated TW UI.. and Bixby is a bit more interesting and useful now, the S8 does pretty much everything... and some , IMO, if it only had Stereo speakers and an IR Blaster.. it would be perfect

You can set a time schedule for when AOD is actually on. I have set to shut off from 10:00pm to 7:00 am.
