AOKP Mako Milestone 1 and AOKPush app available

What would be an advantage to this over the stock Nexus 4.2.2 ROM?

My impression of custom ROMs is that their main draw is the deletion of all the bloat added in by OEMs and Carriers. Honestly I've not used Android that much lately, but am coming back to it with a Nexus 4. I am enjoying the unadulterated Google experience.

What would be gained by switching?

What would be lost?

I'm honestly curious...

Feels like stock except you get a million more options to customize and "shortcomings" of AOSP are improved, for example the pull down toggles, etc.

I was of the same opinion about pure stock android, which I really do like. But there were a couple things that made me want to switch. I wanted to have a transparent nav/status bar, which is an option in AOKP.

Thanks for the replies, Gentlemen.

Options are always good and if I can get something that has that same "pure" feel to it that would be great. I'm still investigating...

big noob here , just left crapple for the nexus 4 and wow i cant think of anything i miss. this aokp is packed with so many cool features and settings it makes the device twice as much fun

Welcome to the forums.

Glad you like it! I had to try it out after reading some posts 2Defmouze said about it.

I downloaded it when I got the Nexus 4 because I wanted to remove the annoying on screen buttons, but after 3 months of using it ther's a lot of features and customization options I love

I know I told myself that I wouldn't ROM the n4 when I got it. But I'm itching to flash this, loved aokp on my gnex and starting to get bored with stock. Ugh temptations temptations

Do it :)

I kept mine stock the first few weeks I owned it only. Just wanted to see what stock 4.2 had to offer, but I knew I'd get to flashing AOKP when I had the time. I do a lot less flashing just because I don't have much time these days but I'd say ever 6-8 weeks I do a full wipe and flash the newest AOKP. I also try and keep up with their XDA forum thread so I know if there are any bugs to be wary of before I waste my time or if everything is stable. Been running the latest milestone only since Thursday actually but it's definitely stable and worth it :)

Alright, I cave. Time for stock to go, and here I go flashing again :) Good thing I unlocked the bootloader when I got the phone

Been running it now for almost 2 hours with franco's milestone kernel. Only have two words, Loving It! Here I go back on the wagon again :)

IMHO that's the best combo of ROM/kernel.
Not saying cyanogenmod is bad but AOKP is better.

OK, you mugs talked me into it. I already purchased AOKPush from the Play Store. I downloaded AOKP via GOO and the GAPPS needed.

I've got my backup done and verified that it gives me a full restore including progress within Apps. (Via TWRP)

A technical question: After I wipe data/factory reset, after I wipe cache, after I wipe Dalvik and flash AOKP... Can I restore all Apps and Progress from TWRP? Just restore data?

Or do I need a more advanced solution?

I tried and it seemed to leave me in a boot loop with the Nexus X on the screen for 10 minutes plus... I'm back where I started having done my full restore pre-flash.

For restoring apps and data after a full wipe and flash you will want to use Titanium Backup. Yes there are other apps which may be fine and others may recommend.. but I recommend TiBu as I've been using it without fail for a long time. The full version costs a few bucks but it is well worth it, and I have a full guide on how you should use it to avoid errors and for maximum efficiency.. link is in my signature "how to TiBu..."

:)

Ive seen a few guys use the data backup via TWRP to save their app data etc and restore it after flashing a new rom. Quite a good idea and I dont know if many people know about this option but it may lead to problems (like you faced). The usual thing is to use TiBu/Helium(Carbon) as 2defmouze said.

However, even following the 2defmouze tutorial, I'm not getting the result I want. The update.zip fails to install. The log blamed lack of signature at first so I added zip signer and redid the update.zip... No luck installing it that way either.

I'm still combing the TiBu thread for clues and will try again on a day off rather than attempting to solve it in a rush. I'll post back here, or in the TiBu thread if I need more help. I'm grateful for the advice so far. :)

And I'm in...

Not quite the route I wanted. Never got the update.zip to flash, but after checking the options in TiBu I found what I needed and flasked over to AOKP. Then when TiBu restored from Play I had it restore my App data...

Hey!!! Did they scrap Cell Broadcast in AOKP??? :(

I live in Tornado Alley and NEED that feature.
