AOKP vs. LiquidSmooth

I am currently running LiquidSmooth 1.3 with LeanKernel and while I am impressed with the performance so far, I was curious about AOKP. Would be right to say that AOKP is more closer to stock ROM than LiquidSmooth or is there more to it? I am considering switching to AOKP to give that a try for a while but wanted to see what everyone thought.

I ride pink unicorns and burp rainbows. That's all I have to say about that.

If there was no aokp there wouldn't b a liquid rom. Aokp is better then cm9. A lot of customization is involved.

AOKP is a bit more closer to stock in some regards (UI theming for one), but they were the first to really add a crap ton of features to the stock ICS setup. Not only that, but they seem to have a "cult" like following not unlike the early days (and arguably, last year lol) of CyanogenMod. With their ever-expanding list of supported devices, they're certainly staking the claim to be the "heir" of the CM "throne"--that being the one rom to rule them all, or some ish like that.

Having used both (disclaimer: AOKP was the first thing flashed onto my device, I have it now, and have not tried Liquid 1.3), I would say AOKP is a bit more stable. Liquid was the fastest thing out there, but for my device, it seemed to come at a price (some bugs here and there, but hey, it happens and is expected). AOKP is rock solid and as a boatload of options, plus a unique spirit that's kind of cool -- particularly if you love unicorns, rainbows, and excellence.

Who doesn't love unicorns and rainbows??

I was just going to give AOKP a shot even though Liquid doesn't seem to have that many bugs but I do notice some slight ones like you said. Makes sense to give different ROMs a try lol.

Think of it this way--you're at a buffet with snow crab legs, dungeness crab legs, and blue crabs (or sub in any variety of whatever). You may only like blue crabs, but what's it hurt to try the others? If it turns out the sweeter flavor of dungeness is your thing, ride on brother!

Same with roms. Find the one you like; if it sucks after a while, get another :).

Yea I have been skeptical of ROMs since I have had bad experiences in the past (mainly with my Samsung Fascinate and Thunderbolt) with random reboots that happened far to often and unstable ROMs but it seems the Galaxy Nexus ROMs are a little more stable.

Just stay tuned to the crackflashers thread. Peeps chatting about their latest ROM flash along with likes/dislikes, stability, speed, etc.. You can get a pretty good idea of what's out there just by reading others experiences. Nothing beats trying it out yourself, but lots of good info from others that have tried it first in here.

Also, hit the developers threads on rootz/xda to see what people are experiencing, feature lists, and all that jazz.

I'm more of a purist as far as aesthetics go, but I like features. This is why I love AOKP. It's why I loved CM7 too. I want to be able to customize the function of the UI, without a whole lot (or any) "bling". I also want extended music controls, and to be able to move the cursor with my volume keys while typing. Thanks AOKP! For speed and butter smoothness to go along with it, I use Franco's kernel. I just couldn't get the same out of AOKP with Faux's kernel, no matter the settings.

These of course, are my own personal preferences. My perfect blend of vanilla, function, speed and stability = AOKP + Franco r143 kernel.

I definitely hear very good things about Liquid. I ran v1.25 for a little while and made a nandroid once I had it all set up. I have since deleted it though, just because I'm so happy with my current setup.

Like dmmarck said, many flavors for the many different tastes. Go take a bite! Mmm mmm, ROMmy!

thinking about trying aokp also.. i assume its just like flashing any other rom as far as the steps go?

i am on liquid 1.3 atm and works great only issues i have is the ringon mp3 is kinda strange acting at times and the camera is stopping other than that its working great very smooth and cutomizable multy lock screens is nice and the custom lock screen walpaper is nice and the added nav bottons

Most gnex ROM's don't have any instability problems.. or if there is anything you should know it would be covered in the OP, such as saying a ROM is still in alpha or testing phase or anything like that.

So far AOKP is running great here.. flashed last night and its my first time running pure AOKP (til now I'd been using th3ory's builds which add some themeing and speed/fluidity tweaks). I miss th3ory's UI still, but I'm impressed with AOKP's performance. Its not quite as smooth as th3ory's builds but the difference isn't much, I notice it in scrolling which seems a tad laggy/jumpier than it was before, and a few other areas. But yeah honestly its very nice and the options you get with AOKP are ridiculous, everything works well too.

Every rom is the same, unless they say otherwise (notably--AXI0M).

Place on SDcard, make a backup, wipe data/cache/dalvik, format system (quasi optional, recommended), install ROM .zip, install GAPPS .zip, reboot into awesome.

Yep.. you can grab from here (I like to use their site): http://forum.aokp.co/page/releases/_/build-34-r19

Grab the Toro ROM, the Gapps from the bottom of the page. Wipe data/factory reset, format /system, flash ROM, flash gapps, reboot and enjoy.

Note that the new gapps pack has a lot of things taken out which are available in the market or are region-sensitive.... it was a surprise to me to have to download maps, music, even GMAIL from the market again, lol. If you or anyone ever wants to know what the deal is with gapps and why the package changes all the info is available here, btw: Google Apps - RootzWiki

Also, no market restore. So unless you have Titanium Backup, schedule out 30 minutes of your day to fight w/ the market ;).

Yeah whatever works, my backup is more recommended by devs since it doesn't let people do things that tibu does that they shouldn't be able to do...lol. Also heard good things about AppMonster i think its called, I believe that's what th3ory recommends.

And yeah that's the latest version of AOKP, just released last night. Super customizable :)
