Apex Launcher requires root for widgets to appear in app drawer

I starting using Apex Launcher as a replacement for the regular Touchwiz launcher. It's great except one thing bothers me. The widgets listing in the app drawer doesn't work properly unless the S3 is rooted.

I've never rooted before and am slightly terrified. All I want to do is have the widgets appear and be functional in the app drawer as they normally would in ICS. Is there a way to gain superuser provileges while keeping the stock rom that the phone came with which I currently use?

Never mind. I managed to root using the method here.
