I download apk file and it comes up with question mark icon. When i click it, it ask me what file type it is which i dont know. Its a game, and the selection doesnt have game file type. Tried different apk's from different sources but they all have the same problem. I didnt have apk problems before hand.

Ok let me see if I'm understanding you correctly , you are trying to download a Apk file for a game , and it's not on your phone at the moment?

So you download it ? It's in the file manager can you uninstall it?

I think the issue is the OP has downloaded an apk file but can't install it.
@op Make sure "allow information from unknown sources" is allowed. Try again to install. If not working download another file manager from Play Store. X-plore and Astro are OK

Gotcha, yeah trying get a understanding what's going on .

If they did download it and doesn't open might have the wrong one .

Best place to get those that I use often is
https://www.apkmirror.com/

doing that makes the apk damaged
That says that what you downloaded isn't an apk file. Rename it to .zip and open it in a zip file app. (An .apk file is just a .zip file with a different extension. All .apk files can be opened as .zip files, but not all .zip files can be installed, hence the change.) If it's a damaged .zip too, it's not an .apk file. Either you're downloading from a bad site, or you're not downloading correctly.

Keep in mind that downloading random apk files from random sites is a great way to get malware. Hopefully you didn't unwittingly download and install a malicious app.
