might be a newbie android user issue, but anyway...

several times now my Nokia 6 has launched apps, made settings, and made calls when the phone is OFF and in my pocket. I am 99% sure it only when the headset is connected.

I am using a new Plantronics explorer 80 headset.

phone has:
  • gone into aeroplane mode
  • set do not disturb
  • launched various apps, including facebook and posted shared links.
  • made outgoing calls
  • made 30 outgoing calls while I was on a long outgoing call.

have a few apps installed to help with notifications - Calendar Notify and Glimpse.

where should I be looking to sort this issue?

Welcome to Android Central! It might just be that the Power button is inadvertently being pressed while in your pocket, and then when the screen is on, there are random touches happening that lead to these events. When you press Power, do you get a password entry screen, a swipe-to-unlock screen, or does it just go straight to the homescreen?

thanks. when I press the power button it asks me for fingerprint, so it shouldn't be turning on by itself.

Ok -- and does the screen lock automatically once it goes to sleep?

Also, do you have the headset defined as a trusted device in the smart lock settings? If so, it could mean that your phone doesn't need to be unlocked when the headset is detected.

yes, it is.
but I guess that is so it can answer calls etc?
what do I lose if I turn that off?

Trusted devices are used to avoid the phone being locked while paired. It won't affect the normal use of the phone, the only change is that you don't need to enter your unlock method every time.
