App Icon Badges - Not Showing

I recently upgraded to the Galaxy Note 10 and am still working out a few bugs. The newest one is the App Icon Badges.

I have the Notifications set to show the Badge with the Number of texts, e-mails, etc on the Icon itself. I love that feature and had it on my old Galaxy 8+

However, I can't get the numbers to show up on the icons even with all the notifications set to show them.

Could someone tell me the Settings that need to be set in order to show the numbers on the icons ?

Currently, this is what I have :
Notifications > App Icon Badges > On > Show With Number > Show Notifications

What am I missing ?

Yes, I just double checked Messages, E-Mail, Snapchat and Discord and they all have notifications turned on and Messages actually has a open to show App Icon Badges and it is turned on.

Your 8+ may have had an older version of the OS. The newer OSs remove the app badge numbers when you swipe away the notifications from the notification bar. So if you want to see the badge numbers don't swipe away the notifications from the notification bar.

I have Nova Launcher on it. I'm not sure the swiping is the issue, I get the vibration and sound alert that e-mail or a new snapchat came in so I swipe to open the home screen (I don't swipe the notification itself) but there's no badge number on the specific icon. However, when I click the icon, let's say to open snapchat, I can see there is a new message there.

I had Nova Launcher on my old 8+ as well. This isn't a huge issue for me but it is a little obnoxious to get an alert and have to check snapchat and discord and e-mail and text messages, etc to see which one has a new message lol. Worst game of 3-card monte ever.

You could try this, open Nova settings - Notification badges and make sure that Numeric Dots is selected.

Disk4mat - I'd never realized that menu was there but I went into it and found the place you were talking about. Nova Launcher is set to ON.

Javier P - my Note 10 doesn't have Dots or Numeric Dots, it has Show With Number (which I want but doesn't seem to register) and Show Without Number which is just a dot in the upper right corner of the app. I switched it from Number to Without Number to see if that makes a difference. As long as I can tell which app has a new message, I'd be happy.

Grr - I hate technology and it hates me, we do this dance over almost everything from my bluetooth car stereo to this Note 10 to getting my computer sound to play through the desktop speakers or headphones. I do the options correctly but it still doesn't work half the time. I recently had issues with my yahoo mail on my phone, had all the options right but no dice, then for not apparent reason it just started working out of the blue. *shrugs* welcome to my hell.

The option I mentioned is included in Nova settings. Do you have Nova Prime? I think the numeric badges are only available in the paid version.

Also go apps>3 dots upper right corner tap it>scroll to special access tap it> notifications access make sure this is toggle on .
It asked you this when you turn badge on in Nova but you could of by accident swipe it away and not toggle it on .

I will check in a few if I bought the paid version or not, it was 3 years ago so I don't recall.

However, I looked up Nova Launcher on google play and found a review from 10-4-19 saying
"Tesla Unread is not working properly. Since the last few months, unread badges of phone (dialer) and messages keeps staying even after opening the application."

I will check on this further in case that is an isolated case for that one user's phone. It's looking more and more like this is a glitch that happened when I transferred all the data, contacts and apps from my 8+ to this new phone. Since the two phones did it automatically, it's not hard to believe that something got glitched during the transfer. Worst case, I will uninstall Nova and (if I haven't already) buy the paid version and set it up again. At least that process isn't too painful.

I just noticed in my version that in the Nova App info there is an Advanced option Change System Settings that was turned off. I turned that on to see, maybe, if that changes anything.

Last thing (for now lol) looks like I do have the paid version. In my app list I found Nova Launcher AND Tesla Unread. TU has Notifications allowed and Permissions on call logs, phone and sms. I turned on permissions for Contacts and Mail Info just in case. It won't let me edit anything else. Where it says Set As Default, it is greyed out and says None Set As Default. This is Version 5.1.1

Maybe there's a conflict with Tesla Unread. Uninstall it, restart the phone and see how it goes. Since version 6 the plugin is unnecessary and I think they even removed it from the Play Store.

Also, you can try this, open Nova settings - scroll all the way down and tap 'Advanced' - Restart Nova Launcher. Don't worry, this restart won't affect your setup.

I had the Nova Launcher Pro but looks like it was a free one. I just bought Nova Launcher Prime so let's see what this does.

SUCCEESS !

Not sure if it was Nova Launcher Prime (paid) or not but here is where I found the solution

Settings > Apps > Nova Launcher (not Prime) > In-App Notification Settings > Notification Badges > Choose A Style > Numeric Dots

I'm not sure if the In-App Notification Settings had Notification Badges on the list or not with just Nova Launcher Prime but I got the badge numbers to work, and could customize them to have a black border, green field and white text in the upper right corner of the app. It's everything I ever wanted in life (don't tell my wife, she still thinks it's her).

Thank you everyone that helped me get this to work !!
