[NOTE]I saw a post about this on Google+ and I thought I'd share it with the kind souls here in our community. Apps like this are what make Android unique IMO; they are awesome, intuitive, and created by brilliant individuals who have a passion for coding and technology. If you can, support these devs with your wallet :). All thanks and credit go to the dev, bponury, for this awesome awesome app![/NOTE]

Now, for the good stuff...

Essentially, what this app does is it works with your kernel to allow you to "gesture" on the screen while the screen is off. The free app is sort of a one-trick pony, but it's a neat trick--simply slide left to right (where the "lock" would ordinarily be) while the screen is off and your phone wakes up. No power button, no volume wake--simply slide.

The paid app does a bit more (slide to lock, slide to media next [skip to next track]), and it appears new features are being contemplated as you read this post.

As far as kernel compatibility, I can personally confirm it works with franco.Kernel r194 (512 MHz GPU). I believe there is kernel discussion in his XDA thread, so head over to XDA and look there if you're worried that your kernel is not supported. If you're too impatient for that, simply download the free version and have a go :).

[WARN]This is a root only app/mod, hence its placement in the rooting sub-forum. Sorry, unrooted users :(.[/WARN]

Thanks I thought this was a pretty cool little app too.

No problem, I'm a sucker for awesome development!

A screen of the interface:

I'd be curious to see if there are any adverse effects on battery, such as killing dead sleep or anything.

Check out the XDA thread. The dev claims that it's not noticeable/minimal at best, further claiming that when the screen is off it's OFF. How it works is anyone's guess.

I'll keep an eye on it tomorrow. I'm plugged in now and not really paying attention to battery lol (as you can see from the screen; ADB push on Ubuntu FTW).

Downloaded - seems to work well. I have to slide slowly two or three times for it to work, but it seems to do what it says. :)

Yeah I've found you have to do it almost directly over where the lock usually is, and go from LEFT to RIGHT...don't start in the middle.

Presumably that's why it doesn't drain--there's a delay and it's not persistently running.

It's already growing on me - phone is on my desk to the right of me and I don't have to "grab" the device to check a text message.

Sold!

I'm now trying to be a ninja; I've scored on a few times where if I do 3 quick swipes I "catch" the lock and unlock it.

...and there goes any hopes of productivity!

I am using it on CM9 0624 and Franco r194, works well. According to CPU Spy, I do't see any issue that stops the phone from going in to deep sleep. Shows deep sleep numbers that are as I would expect it to be. Kudos to the Dev, nice app!

Good to know, thank you!

Not optimistic about the notion.. As it has to keep your touch sensors active and polling for input constantly when they are usually off. But I'll see how you guys feel about its batt effects and maybe try it later or something.. Go guinea pigs, go! :)

I think the reason why it takes 2 swipes or one very long swipe is because it's not very "active," hence it reduces battery drain. Apparently they explain it in the thread but...tl;dr lol

My thoughts exactly. But I will continue to monitor.

I kind of wish it would let you swipe up from the bottom to wake the device. One-hand holding feels more natural that way, and it literally evokes that wake "up" action.

EDIT: of course, not to have to be swiped ALL the way up the device, just the action of a smooth swipe from the dead space below the screen to about half way up.

I agree; that motion seems much more...natural.

Yeah giving this a try just now and it does work smoothly.. I'll probably leave it overnight and see if any extra battery drain is noticeable. Pretty cool tho :)
