App tray question

Hi all, I have a question concerning my app tray (using nova launcher).... when I press my home button and or return to my home screen very often the fixed apps in my app tray have disappeared why is this ? To get them back I have to swipe the tray left to right. I want these apps tray to always remain without having to swipe.... I've checked the nova launcher app tray settings. If I have it on 1 the app tray disappears totally so I have it on 2 with 10 icons. Any help is appreciated.

Try moving the app tray apps to the other page, as you might have them on page 2 rather than page 1.
