I am running stcok gingerbread v2.3.3 on my Inspire. When the phone detects updates for apps like Flash 11, Google Maps, Voice Search, and Gmail, it says starting download, but nothing happens. I have tried through phone network and wifi. I have also tried to restart the phone but no success. Anyone have any advice. Also, if I swipe to the right from the main screen and see the screen that has blockbuster, live tv, reader, and gallery widgets, it has "problem loading gadget" on the screen. Any help would be appreciated.

I thought restarting phone would do that. How do you specifically clear the Market cache and data? Thanks.

Goto Settings, Manage Applications, then find the Market and hit it. There you can clear the cache and data. The Market app will re-download the information necessary after you clear it.

In the main settings menu go to Applications>Manage applications>All and tap on Market in the list. You will see the options.

The clear data tab and clear cache tab are grayed out. Data says 1.07MB and cache says 0.0MB. There is also a Download Manager app for the Market running. Could that be part of the problem?

Download Manager may have have something to do with Market, so try Clear Data with that process. If you have 1.07MB of data, you normally are allowed to Clear Data.
If you have 0mb of cache, then Clear Cache should be grayed out.

I was having a similar problem and was still using the old market version I updated to the new market app and no more problems. The update notifications also come more regular, it used to only show updates when I rebooted the phone.

What happens when all the data is wiped from an app? Does it get rebuilt with the app is restarted? Also, how do you get the new market? Out of the market or someplace else. Thanks.

there is a link to the apk in the forums it is version 3.1.5 it was supposed to be pushed to all Android devices but mine never was updated I had to install the update myself. I will post the link to the thread contesting the apk shortly

Download manager is what updates the market itself. Based on your comment about swiping right from the main screen, I would assume it has done it's job and you are running the newer version of the market. If data is showing, then you should be allowed to clear it, so this may be part of your problem. I had that issue once and what I had to do was uninstall the market update, clear data, and then manually reinstall the updated market again.

The data is all the info personalized to your phone. Login info, game progress, etc. It returns the app to the original state of when you first installed it.

Updating to the new market solved my updating issues. Thanks everybody. The screen to the right has a Blockbuster widget that was bloatware preinstalled on the phone. It says the linked program is no longer installed on the phone. Can those widgets be deleted or changed?

You can delete the widget (by hard tapping the widget then dragging to trash) but you cannot delete Blockbuster unless you have root access. I ignore Blockbuster updates since it is bloat that costs money (I don't feel like rooting to remove it).

So that's what you mean by screen to the right. Yes, you can add or remove any widgets as you please. Personally, I rooted and used Titanium Backup to uninstall Blockbuster, along with a few other AT&T apps, mainly to help reduce clutter in the app drawer.

I did figure out how to delete the widget for the blockbuster app and I have even update the blockbuster app, however I still get the error "problem loading gadget" on the screen. Not sure what else to try.

I fixed this issue by reinstalling a widget for the new blockbuster app on the page. Then, I could long press on the message "problem loading gadget" and drag and delete it. Anyway, thanks for everyone help. I really appreciate it.
