I'm kidding (sort of)... I'm a long time Blackberry user who stuck it out with my Z10 until last week. Finally gave up and got a G4 (really don't like apple). Seems like a really nice phone, and I'm looking forward to learning all about Android. But being new to Google and Android, I gotta ask... Do the color schemes and general designs bother anyone? All the red/green/yellow and cartoony looking icons kinda look like they're for 5 year-olds...
I'm gonna stick with this phone and I'm sure I'll get used to it, but honestly I kinda wish the OS and all the apps and stuff were a bit more slick and streamlined; Instead of, I dunno, looking like kids toys.. ;)

I don't mind Google's colors. As for the apps / feel of the G4 remember that is running LG's UI -- not stock Android :).

The overall look of stock Android isn't as 'colorful' as it is on Manufacturer's implementations, so can't really blame it all on Android itself. But yeah, it's not as sober as the BlackBerry color scheme.

That being said, the good thing with Android is that you don't have to stick to those. You can download themes for your G4 that make it just as 'elegant' and with subdued colors as a BlackBerry or use 3rd party launchers with custom icons (Nova Launcher is a very popular choice, and if you REALLY want a whole different phone with every theme, I strongly suggest trying Themer out).

Thank you! Maybe I'll try that once I get uses to everything. I always liked how bb did things design-wise. Nice and clean and "professional" looking, if you will...

Thanks. Does stock Android look better?

It depends on what parts you are talking about. The settings menu is better. App icons are fairly universal, so they look kinda cartoonish.

Yup, even in stock they're still flat and colorful (just not as bright and 'happy' as manufacturer's). Icon packs definitely help to add sobriety to them.

Icon packs? Nice! I'll have to checked them out. Anyone have recommendations?

I use Belle UI icon pack....the look works for me...they are more rounded and less boxy than stock.

Like every one is saying try a different launcher and icon packs and you'll be surprised by the looks you can get. Me like you was a diehard blackberry fan, my last one being the Z30 , which I still have. Along with the Q10 , Z10 from the os 10 platform. Although I do love it, I've finally see where blackberry is heading in terms of smart phones. Here's a quick preview of what I did with my phones with nova launcher, stealth icon pack and zooper calender widget, along with my amber widget weather

Here are a couple of pics

I use either of the IrideUI icon packs, the hipster version are nicely toned back in colour. I'd say there's probably a Blackberry set of them somewhere in the play store though.

I use Apex launcher. I am terribly disappointed with the 20 or so themes in the SmartWorld (90 percent were too girly). You can set the entire themes or just the icons with Apex.

There is also the zedge app that you can use to download wallpaper, icons and ringtones.
