Apparently the back cover is removable

A reader over at XDA removed his back cover and sanded it down to remove the high gloss. It ended up looking like a sort of matte finish.

That would check off one of the main issues (fingerprints and a nasty look) if we can replace the cover. Apparently the battery is somewhat removable also.

Anyone seen any backplate covers for sale?

I saw this and although my mind didn't go straight to "oh custom backs for the phone!", I did start thinking that this phone would be pretty easy to work on. And I have to admit, I like how the back turned out.

this is pretty sweet. This waives my worries if I ever need to remove the battery a year or so from now.

Very interesting, nice to know the back will come off if you absolutely needed to swap the battery out. Seeing this makes me wonder when they didnt simply design it like that.

Yeah good point. Why on earth didn't they just make the back removable so people can stop ******** about the non-removable battery and slippery back???

Probably not very likely that replaceable backs will be made for the phone given that the popular perception is it's non-removable. Frankly, looking at, I'm not sure how it would be removed without leaving marks on the body.

Ken7 good point. It's not "officially" removable so no one will probably make a back for it. I hadn't considered that....crap. I really don't want to deal with all those nasty fingerprints on the back and didn't want a case. Maybe I'll look at a skin or ultra thin case
