I don't even own a credit card and don't want this to be involved with my credit score at all. I have all of the money right now and I plan to pay with debit, what gives? If they really try to hassle me about some credit BS I'm going to get pissed.

I asked this exact question when pre-ordering and I was told there would be no credit check since we aren't signing up to a contract. This was BB though. I might have to check with my local Verizon.

I have asked this question to verizon 3 times. I emailed them two times from the "contact us" page and one person said no they will not do a credit check, the second said they would do one. The third time i asked a VZW guy from the customer forums on their website and he said they do a credit check.

Haha. Its a slow day for me.

I called Verizon and BB. They both said there is no credit check. You buy the device and they set up with the service on a month to month basis. Sort of like their prepaid service.

Does getting your credit check hurt your credit? I heard that a while ago but never thought about it. I guess I wouldn't want to hurt my credit for a non contract purchase.

Did anyone give their social on a pre order?

Credit checks take a small hit against your score. I have read isnt that bad but if you have a long line of checks in one period of time it reflects negatively.

And no SS was given for me.

A few inquiries over a 6 month period do not effect your credit score. However, you should try and keep around 4 in a 6 month period to not influence your score.

If they do a credit check it is probably because you could essentially run up huge usage amounts and not pay.

Doesn't make sense. I had a NetBook from Verizon for like 4 days. I initially got it just for WiFi, but had to get the $15 plan or something. There was limited usage on that plan. They didn't do a credit check on me for that purchase. I wouldn't allow a credit check for such a stupid purchase. I am going to be buying a new car in the next week, and I might shop around for interest rates. If so, then I will have a few inquiries already, and wouldn't want this one added to that! Might be a deal breaker for me...

I can understand the frustration in that. If you get someone who wants to do a credit check maybe you can come back or go to a different store and have a different result.

Nissan and GM are having 0% interest on some of their vehicles. Not sure what you are in the market for, but good luck!

I got some solid info. They will ask for your SS and they do run a check because they need that info to start up an account for you. I was told also that it doesn't matter what your credit is like in case some of you were concerned about that.

No it doesn't !!!! If you are a new subscriber you credit is gonna get checked period and possibly current subscriber also. You are possibly gonna get an expensive piece of merchandise for a subsidized price.

So you're saying that no matter if the persons credit is good, average or poor, they can still open an account without any problems?
