Appback: What's your favorite file manager?

Appback is a portmanteau of "application" and "feedback." I just totally made it up, so who knows, it may stick, it may not. Probably not lol.

But anyways, I'd like to hear about which file managers you guys use. I understand that they all basically do the same thing right? But some do it in much better ways than others. And there are so many out there, so maybe we should all share our favorites so some standards might emerge. I'll start:

I personally use SManager. I chose SManager because it has a file manager and console packaged in a single app, and I'm a big fan of multipurpose apps to reduce clutter. SManager also manages to be lightweight, although not superlightweight (FO FM), and it's very root friendly.

It also makes managing scripts easy, although I don't know how to use that yet.

How about you guys?

I use astro for one reason only, it handles editing zip files well. And I've gotten used to it (that's 2..)
If anyone could suggest an open source app that I can use to easily mess with roms and stuff, please tell me

I use file expert, but the version that had root options for free. I use it to access my nas at home.

Zarchiver is a free plugin that lets you view and unpack zip files from any file manager. It doesn't look as visually sleek as Astro, but in terms of functionality I don't think it lacks any features.

I checked that out on Market, and it is sleek. Lots of skins, the metal version looks awesome.

FX file manager.

Can you guys give any reasons? It would make the thread much better.

fx file manager is still in beta and is something to see. while in beta all paid functions are unlocked. only thing i cant figure out on it is read/write to root,etc...it may not be implemented yet. its very customizable and easy to use. although im tempted to give file expert a go.

es file explorer. It does what its supposed to do. No other reasons necessarily besides it is just the first one I used.

I really liked Super Manager (by GPC) but it didn't have SMB and I HATE the fact that it runs constantly in the background.

Astro was a favorite since it had the SMB plugin, however, I HATE the fact that it runs constantly in the background (probably because of the task killer). Another peeve was the smb settings were lost every time I backed up the app and restored it.

ESfile Explorer is my choice now, donate anything and you can remove the adds (actually even if you don't, the remover is freely available, donate anyway, it's a good app) doesn't run in the background and it retains the smb settings when you restore it, it even handles zip files. Basically it does exactly what you want and nothing else.

Es file manager is perfect. I do use root browser sometimes because you can because you can run scripts with it and I hate typing. But es is great for everything else. You just have to know to run it as root

This is great. Thank you all for the feedback, appreciate it.

I like ES file explorer because it works no matter if you're running a non-rooted stock rom, a rooted stock rom, or a custom rom. It can also work in coordination with apps like Rom Toolbox, etc...as a default of choice. Nice! And it offers alot of organization options to help you maintain your chaos of info. I can depend on it to do the job anytime!
