Apple will Never Let You Leave

After being an iPhone user since the iPhone 4, I decided to take the plunge and move over to Android. Once I saw the Galaxy S6, I knew Samsung finally made a phone comparable to the iPhone. So on Monday, April 27th I made the switch and purchased the S6. Prior to this, on Sunday morning, I turned off iMessages as was recommended. Once I got my S6 I really liked it, the screen was beautiful compared to the iPhone, the size was perfect, and the camera was fantastic.

However, by Tuesday, I was getting calls from people who were complaining I was not answering their text messages or they were getting notices that the text failed. Knowing that those on iPhones may need to switch on send as SMS if iMessage not available, I had nearly everyone I know check this on their iPhones. Even after that messages were still not reaching me from those with iPhones, which is about 90% of the people I know. So, I called Apple support who confirmed my number was deactivated from iMessages. Unfortunately, nothing has worked. Group messaging is a disaster as well as MMS when it involves iPhone users. which is all the time.

After spending nearly two weeks trying to fix this, I have no other choice but to throw in the towel and go back to the iPhone. It is imperative that I receive my messages, and this is not happening. I am missing important messages, such as picking up kids, because of this problem. I just cannot believe Apple has made it so difficult to leave. I almost feel like what they are doing is illegal. Someone recommended I get a new number, but that is not feasible. I had the same number since 2003 and I rely on people contacting me for consulting work.

Unless someone has a viable solution (trust me I tried nearly all of them), I will be taking the S6 back before my 14 days exchange period is up and go back to shackle like iPhone.

I have switched between iPhone and Android a number of times with very little issues. When I do have issues they have been solved two ways. First is to make sure the iPhone user has "send as SMS" turned on. It sounds like you did that. The other is to have the iPhone user delete all messages from or to me and delete me as a contact. Then add me back as a contact and make sure that I am not listed as an iPhone user in their contacts.

It is absolutely insane that anyone would have to go through all of this, but that's Apple for you. I just recently bought a Note 4 and deactivated my 6 Plus with no issues from iPhone users. Most of my friends and all of my family use iPhones. Things like this make me never want to use one of their products again.

Thanks for the response. Your solution is fine for family and friends, but I would be reluctant to ask business associates to do this for me. Honestly, it would be easier to change my number. If I can get this solved, I will never use another Apple product again.

If you do go back. Keep imessage off when you use your iPhone. Eventually it will correct and then when you switch devices you should not have any issues. The kick in the nuts is Apple sometimes turns it on when you upgrade.

It will eventually work itself out. It's a huge pain in the *** and since Nov 2014 there are a few people with iPhone I can't group text with. Solely because of this I will NEVER use another apple product again.

I've heard of several people experiencing this kind of issue. They ended up having to go through their carrier I think to get it fixed.
