doesnt this phone have 16

i remember browsing around it said i had 12, no biggie im guessing its all the bloatware

but why only 1.7 for apps

is this just a reserved space that i can change if i root it

Its like 12gb of USB memory and 1.88gb device memory. Does this mean if someone sends me a picture via text message it counts against my device 1.88gb memory? Can someone explain any of this please?

Pretty sure if you store the picture it goes to the SD card. Otherwise it wouldn't show up in the gallery.

1.8gb for applications is pretty good.

As someone said 1.7g is pretty decent for apps the nexus one has about 196MB unrooted

The internal memory is just partitioned. I believe the 2GB is for apps only, while some is the OS and the rest is normal storage.

2 GB is a ton of memory for Apps. You also have the rest of the 16 GB as internal memory. You can get yourself a micro SD card of 8 to 16 GB and set your camera, videos and music to be stored there. You can also download an app from the market call app2SD which will help you know which apps you can move from your phone memory to the SD card.

You can go to the app called task manager and the last tab called storage will show you exactly how much each of these partitions are using and their capacity.

It really does have a ton of memory!

Atts version didn't come with an SD card.
Neither does the Sprint. Amazon has 4GB micro SD cards for $5 but get a 32GB Class 10 for $50. You will use it to store movies, songs, photos, and photos. Fry's often has them for less.

...but why only 1.7 for apps...
My EVO had only 300MB free and I had 140 apps on it. 1,700MB is beyond any phone I know of. You can fit maybe 600 apps on it?

The internal memory is partitioned so that 11.5GB is available for files and about 3GB for the operating system.
