applications screen issue

I have read a lot of threads that mention certain carriers have removed the A-Z button that allows you to list your apps alphabetically.
I phoned Three UK today to ask how to do this without the button, they didn't know and reckoned to have phoned Samsung who said it isn't included.
So Samsung say there is no way to do it and Three say the same yet some USA phones have it, so what gives? It sounds like a true pain to have to sort them all manually.
Does anyone out there know how to solve it or is there a fix available?

Welcome to Android Central! It's puzzling and frustrating to understand why carriers decide to make certain modifications or remove certain features. There isn't always a good reason. You might be able to bring it back by rooting the phone and using something like Xposed Framework, but if you don't want to tinker with the phone too much, then consider installing a 3rd party launcher like Nova or Apex, or the Google Now Launcher.

I've never played with launchers and i'm certainly not brave enough for rooting. I'll try the launcher option to see how I get on with it.
Many thanks for your reply, it's nice to know there is assistance for those of us who aren't particularly tech savvy.
