Apps acting crazy

I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 1. I recently purchased a sandisk micro sd card so that I could move all my apps to that card. I just read that apps cannot be moved to the sd card. My question is that most of the time the apps have been working fine. However, lately some of the apps icons grey out with a little "sd" pictured on the corner of the icon. When I click the icon to start the app it says it is not loaded. So I go to settings and try to move the app back to the phone but it says it cannot find the app. To fix this problem I simply turn of the phone and restart it. Lo and behold all the apps are available once again. If it is not possible to transfer apps to the sd cards why does the apps work fine most of the time?
