Coming from Blackberry I got pretty used to having sound profiles. What I've noticed with Android or at least the Fascinate is that you can't toggle between sound and vibrate only options for ringer and notifications. Do I have to silence the ringer and then manually go into each app and set them to silent and vibrate? That could prove to be a bit cumbersome if I'm at work and I don't want a sound to pop off in the middle of a meeting, but still need to be able to know when I receive an email, txt or IM. I know with Blackberry I could just set up a sound profile that said "Work" and set all of my notifications and my ringer to vibrate only. Any help or suggestions would be nice.

Tasker App .... very flexible and powerful. Setting Profiles if you want something a little less complicated.

You can do amazing things with Tasker, but Setting Profiles will get the job done for your specific requirements.

Thanks for the suggestions. I can't seem to get Setting Profiles to work as I'd like though. I want to be able to set all notifications to vibrate as a Work profile, but when I adjust the ringer and notification volume all the way down, I get nothing. It won't even vibrate. I want absolutely no sounds, just vibration for all notifications and calls. Seems like there's no way to get this at all? Or am I just a bit of an idiot and I'm adjusting this incorrectly? Feel free to call me an idiot, it won't affect me at all lol. Anyone with suggestions feel free to chime in.

This may help you badmf222: Silent Toggle Widget.

It's a widget that let's you toggle between Ring (your normal assigned sounds), Vibrate or Silent. Works pretty well. I've never fully tested it under your circumstances but I think it'll do the trick for you.

My Kingdom for a Blackberry-like real Profile Manager on Android ... The Holy Grail :D

I use Locale with various plugins for the easy scheduled phone settings (work, in car dock, at night, etc..). For quick sound changes I use the Audio Manager widget.

I use Locale as well. It does a nice job.

OK, so not quite "my kingdom" worthy just yet, but Ringleader Pro is a new app I just found that is by far the closest to BB profiles I've seen. Not the most intuitive setup, but once you set it up once, switching between profiles is easy, it has a great widget, and boy I am much happier! The developer is very responsive as well.

Does Ringleader work on third party apps like Touchdown? I tried the 1st release and I did not think it did...

I would expect it would work, but I don't use Touchdown so I can't be sure. The setup I used requires you to (once) go into each app and re-select your ringtone "through" Ringleader, and then the Ringleader profiles change the alert/ringtone as per your profiles in Ringleader.

I would just e-mail the dev if this is critical for you as he is very responsive. So far the app has been perfect for me...

i too am looking for an app to give me blackberry-esque sound profiles control.

i tried both quick profiles and silencr, but they do not have an option for text message sound control.

couldnt find my kingdom on the android market.

any other suggestions?

(what i am trying to set up is a profile for vibrate only for calls, flash led only for texts and notifications.).

I too use Ringleader Pro and coming from a Blackberry myself where I depended on profiles and individual alerts for each app I know just what your talking about.

Ringleader Pro is what you want very easy to use and set up various profiles. Also easy to set up app's with their own notifications/tones as well.

Try out the free version first if you like it then give ringleader pro a try.

RingLeader does not work with Touchdown. I just confirmed that. The best option I have found so far is Simple Sound Profile Widget (free on market). It allows you to set up your own distinctive profiles. The only thing I cannot replicate from the BB is when plugging in at night, I had the BB go into bedside mode and that triggered the sound profile "phone only". I have a bedside profile in the widget but I am at the mercy of my failing memory to change the profile each night!

Certainly not fool proof but the best I have found so far.

Blackberry like profile manager for free

I downloaded Ring Toggle to toggle between:

Ring
Ring and Vibrate
Vibrate
Silent

And I downloaded Handcent to get custom SMS notifications and lights. I also downloaded gmail notifier that basically lets me decide what sound (if any) as well as what if I want an LED light while still letting me get the notification at the top that I ahve a new message (even if no sound is played). One thing I liked about blackberry was that I could get a sound if a certain contact emailed me so I downloaded lab alerts for that. Unfortunately, it only works for labels so I went through my gmail to create a filter to label mail from certain contacts.

I use Smart Voice Controller for this Purpose. It's Flexible and Smooth. You better give it a try. There are two versions of it in Play Store.Free and Paid versions , So you can try the Free Version and get on to Paid Version
