Apps Running on Background on their own?

Hey All,
I've noticed on my EVO that when I open Advanced Task Killer there will be apps that are running that I've never opened before. This is my first android phone but is this normal? I find it weird that after 30 mins or so not using my phone I'll open up Task Killer and apps like: weather, navigation, qik, gallery, etc. will all be running.

Is there a setting to have apps not open automatically? Any advice or explanation on this would be much appreciated..thanks all!

Many of the stock apps are set to open automatically, i dont know if there is a way to change that setting automatically, possibly though root.

However its not necessarily bad, many people dont use task killers and have good battery life. I believe there is a thread on Task killers vs letting android run itself floating around somewhere.

I use Advanced Task Killer. Great app...and you can find it in the market.
