I am Deaf and I am extremely interested in either Verizon Moto Droid, Verizon HTC Eris or Sprint HTC Hero devices.

I know these only have 1 settings which is too low vibration for any kind of alerts.

I want vibration alerts such as 3 strong medium vibrations for e-mail, 3 strong long vibrations for text and so on.

Is there any app for that?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Cheers!

hi me deaf too.. darn no one answer that.. let me know if you know. me user mytouch 3g. i am tom neville, btw

I'm not sure about emails and AIM alerts but I know if you download Handcent SMS you can configure your own vibrate patterns for incoming texts. I'm not sure about a stand alone app for configuring vibrations, however. I figured that knowing about one is better than knowing about zero though.

Tom Neville? I love all of your funny shows and I have your DVD!

I just found a app called Smart Vibration (or vibrator) that allows you to set short or long as many as you want for SMS and any contacts too but not for e-mails or AIM.

I am drooling over Sprint HTC Hero and I am really putting it off purchasing it till I have what I really need. I am waiting for anyone who knows if there's an app that allows various settings including stronger vibration, etc...

I am deaf, too. Been shopping for an Android phone for few weeks....HTC Hero, HTC Droid Eris or Motorola Droid. But big disappointment to find Android platform does not have a good repeat notification for email that can be used with vibration. Even checked with Verizon technician and he has no suggestion. Some suggest the "Missed Call" app in Marketplace, but not work for email. Why would I want to pay for an Android phone then have to check every 5 minutes if not feel weak vibrate for email?! Sad that fancy Android phone can't even do what antique Sidekick can do (T-Mobile service here stinks so not good choice for me)!!

In the near future, it is possible that the developers of Missed Call will add support for emails and the like, but for the time being, it is sad that there isn't really out there (not that I know of at least).

I'm sure the fact that there are 2 email applications, one for gmail and one for all other types of accounts, doesn't help developers at all. Because it would require devs to do twice the work for the same amount of functionality.

Apparently there are multiple developers out there who are willing to make this happen for repeat email (Gmail + Mail) notifications, but Google seems to not allow app developers this type of access. So it may have to come from within Google.

I've submitted a feature request at "Google Code Android" for anyone who would like to add their support to make this feature happen, either through Google or allowing app developers to do so:
